It looks to me like you are doing all you can possibly do short of not having the right equipment.
The next thing is:
What are you going to do with 1 duckling ?
Maybe there is someone close who has a few ducklings you can buy so as to raise them together.
I do not think I would put them back in with the hen...better to put in their own pen.
But the best thing is to talk to a duck person, which I am not.
I do know that ducks need a higher humidity than chickens, and actually benefit from a spritz of water every so often but a max humidity of around 70%...almost positive.
Duck People step up and help !!!!!

THANK YOU for your encouragement. I actually came back to just delete my post in this group since I felt really bad about posting a question in the not-question part of the forum. I am just so upset about these eggs...

It's still tapping - made a little hole in the shell last night so I know it has air. Now if it just has the energy to keep going.

I got a reply on my other post, and subsequently upped the temperature to about 96 which seems to be as high as I can get it on the heated floor and with a light shining in.

I hope your hen is alright. We get so attached to these birds, don't we!

When I posted last it was 104 in the sun. But right across the driveway it was 94 degrees. Its amazing what the difference is between two properties in the same location, when one has trees that provide shade durring the hot hours, and the other doesn't. I did manage to get quite a bit done around the place today though. I worked outside for 20 minutes at a time, then came back inside to cool off, get a drink, and check on the little one while she napped.

Are you getting much smoke there from the Olympia or Shelton fires ?

Nope no smoke from south of us, or from the Olympics iether! Thank goodness, cause my Grandma can't breath when we are covered in smoke... She has C.O.P.D. I think thats what is is anyways. But she refuses to do anything about it, besides an albuteral inhaler... So I tend to worry about her, even though we don't get along very often...

99.5 is the optimum hatch temp...keep the drafts down but he needs air...maybe put the egg in a piece of egg carton (dampen the carton first) so it is air (big end ) up and off not directly touching the heat mat so the baby does not get scorthed on that 1 spot...what else can you do ?

The damp egg carton (paper type) will help the little dude stay hydrated.

I finally went to a dr about mine and they have me on a steroid inhaler 2X a day...suppos I have "hyper active airways" and now I hardly ever need the albuterol that I was taking 6-10X a day !
It was sensitivety all along !
Glad you are away from the fire !

Sirens..................!!!!!
Every time I hear some I flip and have to run outside and look for smoke !
I do not see anything but FOG here, cool and wonderful.
I have made a gruel of ground layena, soy milk, water, a Tablespoon or two of Sugar, and a mix of cooked rice pilaf and sunflower seeds...chopper mixed and syringed a dab at a time to the hen who was very good, no fighting back, and she ate about 1 cup then I returned her to the coop where she sits on the roost, eyes closed.
Nothing else can be done...so we waite.

Your such a good chicken momma! I hope your hen improves. Its always so upsetting when something happens to one of the flock.

So I want to worm my remaining 5 chickens, what should I use? And should I worm them lightly at first, just in case, or should I give them a full dose?

Thanks!

I use Wazine every 30 days for 3 doses...then alot of ppl recommend Ivermectin...expensive for a bottle and it lasts forever...see if you can 'buy' some from someone as a bottle is tons of dosages...and really expensive.
I also dust the feed with DE, and provide the DE dust bath.
There has been no improvement in my ill Lt Brahma hen...she just stands with eyes closed...she will awaken and walk about if bumped...guess we do some more syringe food and water.

I am not sure how the neighbors could prove it wasn't the same Roo.

I think that the ethics get buried buy the enabling.

Yeah so far my roo has not crowed in the "kill that rooster!" hours so he's good for awhile but he's a buff Orpington roo (very pretty guy) I got for free and I want to have a flock of one breed and orpington's were not one of my choices.. hrmm maybe i can swap in secret as the neighbors know i have a roo but have not seen him yet lol. I'm hoping to find a quiet Araucana roo but have not found a quiet guy yet.
