Kind of knew it was coming didn't you?
They are doing it to protect you right?
Because we must all be to stupid to protect ourselves right?
Isn't that what politician after politician think?
Of course if they were truly trying to protect you over half the food on the store shelves along with many HUGE food corporations would be shut down for selling 85% filler instead of what you are suppose to be buying.

NY legislators want chickens vaccinated

NEW YORK —
Two state legislators want to require farmers in New York to vaccinate their chickens against salmonella.

Sen. Daniel Squadron and Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh announced their proposal Sunday in front of a supermarket in New York City. Their idea comes after a nationwide recall of hundreds of millions of eggs. None of the recalled eggs came from New York.

The legislators say vaccinations costing one penny per dozen eggs could nearly eliminate the more than 100,000 salmonella cases each year in the U.S. if all states had such a law.

They plan to formally introduce the legislation this week.

Wonderful husband forgot his sun glasses at our friends' in Monroe so we went back out there today. Ugh! That means we're out for Friday and unable to meet Steve... Hopefully I get to see his birds (and, more importantly, Cindy Smith's) at the Puyallup.
But when we were out yesterday, we stopped at the Monroe Feed Store & found a new, bigger, better COOP for the girls! That means, after appropriate staining and inner workings, we'll be ready for new ones to meet our established flock (after their quarantine period).

We also went to the fair and got to see the birdies!!!! Even WA4-HPoultryMom's daughter's birds, remember the winning Wyandotte pics she had a bit ago? Very pretty!!

Here's the new coop, with lots of room and even a ventilated roof:

Hey Cindy I think my daughter and I are interested!! I want to enter my 2 male black runner ducks! I will call Jen and hopefully she can answer some of my questions! It would be fun to see how well they would do!

Thanks for the heads up!

Having Celiac Disease has made it virtually impossible for me to buy just about anything from a grocery store that does not have wheat, modified food starch using wheat, mono-sodium glutemate (gluten) or some form of wheat.
I think people all over would feel alot better if those chickens were vaccinated.
How on earth do you vaccinate a chicken for salmonella ?

Hmm will do on the cover part since I have two raised beds easy to cover.

I am filling a big raised bed and turn the poo pile daily if I can, and I will cover it this winter, if nothing else, it will help hold the heat in, and that keeps the "bugs" and wormies happy !

Would composting horse manure and chicken poo work in a raised bed? I almost feel silly for asking, but I'm new to the whole micro farm. This is my first home that I have been allowed to do as I please with it. But I want to build more raised beds, as I seem to have more luck growing above ground than actually in it around here. lol

Thanks for the heads up on the fair. jas and I will probably take our trio of BLR roos and let the judges decide "who is right and who is dead" to quote the Princess Bride.

if anyone has experience with gaping chickens or chickens who tried scuba and failed, please check out my plea for help here

Yes, think of horse and chicken manure of plants on steriods. Cause after they get those natural nutrients you'll be amazed at the difference.
