Must have been weird, huh ?
OK a rainy day, so we may just go shopping, can't work outside.
Birds look better this morning.

I am here this morning, for awhile. But, sick. I hate back to school as my kids always bring me something home (and it is not paperwork always). Sore throat. Stuffy nose. Plugged ears. It's all fun.

LOL I was using a standard 12 pound pipe, post pounder... The one with handles that run down either side of the tube... Was trying to set a T-post in some hard pan, got two pounds in, and on the third down stroke, I lifted the pounder to high, hit the side of it on the t-post, wich made the pounder kick back and land "weighted side down" onto the back right side of my head... Instant knock out, and I was sitting cross legged in the dirt when I came too... I'm sure it would have happened in a different fassion if I wasn't extremely mad at the men who were supposed to be helping. lol (moral of THAT story) Don't pound T-posts when you are angry...

Bad things tend to happen. LOL

I pick up after and care for horses for a living! lol I havn't actually trained a horse in quite a few years. But I've never been much for saddle work. I work SO much better from the ground, and it is what I prefer. So far in the 18 some odd years that I have been doing this, I havnt found a horse with ground issues, that I couldn't at least make progress with. The worst one was a yearling Belgian Colt out in Chatteroy Wa, that ruined my left shoulder... But even him, I was able to get wonderfull ground manners from. Now he's a driving and parade horse.

I love my line of work! Just wish there was more of it.

I use 2x2's, "I have a small coop" but 2x4's work also. I think Chickens would have an easier time standing on the 4" side of a 2x4. Chickens don't quite have the grip in their feet, like other birds do, so I figure the flatter the surface the better.

But I'm sure someone with more experience can give you a better answer.

What size boards(?) do you use to make perches for the chickens? Like if you use a 2X4 would they sit on the 2 part or the 4 part?
Thanks, Sally

We use 2x4's and lay them sideways so the birds sit on the 4" part. During the real cold spells, this helps their body heat keep around their toes so they don't get frost bit. Not that we get really cold winters around her usually, but this winter is supposed to be bad due to La Nina...(or is it El Nino? I always get them confused!!!)

The frizzled one actually just took a drink of water in that photo. . . Got his crest and beard all wet. Otherwise, they're quite dry in those photos.
