Ok from graham here near Puyallup....
anyways just me the wife and a silly Parrot and soon to be chickens once I get a coop built and find some chicks. Anyone know of a good place to get some chics?? Want for egg production mostly for the family and friends. Trying to get away from store bought stuff. This year we canned pickles made jams and froze vegatables from the garden. It is hard work but makes you kind of proud, being an ex city boy and all.

Hey fellow Washington people, I have been posting this ad over an over on craigslist to get rid of these cages, them SOB's keep flagging me but whatever I just keep posting it, I don't have better things to do LOL.
- Plus I am trying to get a little extra money to purchase some partylite items at my moms party, anyone else interested in some partylite items? They can be shipped directly to your home at no extra cost! If so let me know and I will post the catalog link to the group.

At the bottom is a link to my ad with pictures of the cages...

Hello, we have 4 bird cages we have available for sale of various sizes.
A. Green small cage, big enough for one or two parakeets, a love bird, or maybe some finches!! Very cute cage, has 2 doors for the food and water dishes along with a large
door that will open straight up, or you can open it and lay it down for a landing for the birds to perch on while they play outside there cage or to come get treats, you get the idea... Cage comes with a food dish, a water dish and 2 perches.
Cage measures approx. 17.5" tall (from top of the peak) x 13" wide x 10" deep - Asking $10

B. Deep Red small cage, same description as above... I like this one, its got a perfect
flat top, to stack the green cage on top, or a play area or something else?
Cage comes with a food dish, a water dish and 2 perches.
Cage measures approx. 16" tall x 13" wide x 10" deep - Asking $10

C. Small White Cage, Smaller breeder type cage, pair of love birds, a cockatiel,
couple parakeets, finches or like sized bird.
Cage measures approx. 16" tall x 23.5" wide x 16" deep - Asking $15

D. Big White Cage, Bigger breeder type cage, has a spot in the end of the cage to
take the wire off and hang a nest box off for your birds to lay there eggs and raise
there babies, without taking away a lot of space inside there cage. Good for a couple
pairs of parakeets, a pair of cockatiels, pair of love birds, group of finches or other
smaller type parrots, a conure, etc.
Cage measures approx. 17.5" tall x 30" wide x 17.5 deep - Asking $20

Or all 4 for $50 cash.

I am not trying to encourage breeding, I think there are plenty other backyard
breeders going on, who are doing more harm than good, these are just extra
cages I no longer want to store...

Located in the area of
Maple Valley, Auburn, Covington, Black Diamond, Kent

Hey everyone,
I am back LOL...
I just wanted to post here before Saturday morning, to offer some of my chicks, I have been working on partridge bantam cochins, these are obviously my culls from my project, but I wanted to offer them here before I take them to the Auction on Saturday.
If anyone is interested EMAIL me [email protected] I am not exactly sure how many there are probably 10 or so, some have silkie characteristics dark feet 5 toes, silkie combs and some not, awesome foot feathering, there are some blues, and a black or two, all cochins there are lots of frizzles and some straight feathered. I will see if I can get a picture tonight.
Again these are not "show quality" they are just some SUPER cute chicks I would hate to let go to the auction, if someone here might be interested. They are straight run, still to young to tell pullets from cockerals.
Let me know. Pickup in Enumclaw Saturday or if your sure you want them you can pick up in Kent at another time. I need to know before Saturday AM

I wanted to add that these are free

Hey could any of you old chicken hands in western Washington give us newbies some idea of what it takes to get the chicks through the winter? Does anyone insulate their coop? Do you keep your runs covered from the rain? Is supplemental lighting helpful to keep the eggs coming? Do the coons get hungrier in the winter? TIA

we are some ways away from you and this will be our chickens first full winter. Our coop is insulated, and also has a cadet heater installed. I really dont know if we will need the heater or not, and we have DLM going in the coop and think rather then remove it all now we will leave it in there over the winter as added floor insulation.

My coop was far from insilated, my coop last year was pretty much a four sided open wall coop with only chicken wire and the roof was the same, we covered the roof in one of those 20x30 tarps and it kept it pretty dry, we had snow, rain, wind everything last year and they all did fine.

I am still in the works of building new "pens" they have a small house and a yard on them. Simple, and I can have more pens in the small space I have giving the birds enough room and seperating the different breeds and varieties.

You should be A-OK!

This is alittle off the subject of getting birds through the winter, well not really.
Has anyone else made straw houses for their birds? We make them by stacking 3 bales high on the back and sides and 4 bales high for the front. We then make a roof out of a tarp and make a frame for it and stick that on top. Then fill in the gaps with more straw. We use it for our ducks and geese and it always keeps them warm. When spring comes we take the bales down and spread them around the yard for the chickens to scratch through or we add it to the compost heap.

Hello fellow Washingtonians!! I am in the Camas area and new to chickens this year. My neighbor and I will split an order of chicks early this spring, I am soo excited. So far I have 5 beautiful Australorp hens and this will be their first winter. I really appreciate the great thoughts on 'winterizing' for the hens. I am fairly certain they will be fine, as I have read they are quite hardy and our set up is pretty decent. We don't usually get long freezing periods around here in the valley.

Well, just wanted to say 'hi' and add my name to the washington list.
