My 8 chicks are in my living room now. We had a sudden frost on Fri/Sat and I was so glad I didn't put them out Friday morning like I wanted to!

My DH has most definitely given up on me... but he's the same way about vehicles, so it's even.

and selling the eggs I dont put in the bator. DS sold enough eggs to buy the layers food and the chick starter for the month!
If I get good at this hatching thing I might sell chicks.

I just have to vent about our weather, lol. I finally get 2 whole days off and of course it will rain. I needed those 2 days to finish winterizing pens. Now my ducks are fighting and I dont have time to build pens before snow flies, I still have to build 4 pheasant pens as well as make them winter houses. A friend up by Colville said they have a chance of snow this weekend. I think my boss planned this out, he found the worst days of the month and let me have them off, lol.

Ok I am done venting for now. How is the weather for everyone else? How are all the Washington birds? My ringneck pheasant hens killed their man so I put them with a new male who can control them and its working. My amhearst cockerels are getting their color. As far as chickens go my dun laced birds are amazing. The sumatras are all turning out good, it is going to be hard to choose which males to keep and which to sell. One of the most crazy sumatra pullets suddenly turned calm, now she follows people and the dogs around everywhere. When you ask her what she is doing she simply and promptly replies with "baerrk", it is awesome.

I hope all is well for everyone, have a great week all,
Michael

It's crisp and cool and sunny on this side of the mountains!

I have two hens laying and have seen a VERY slight decline -- 4-5 a week isntead of 6-7 per hen.

I'm wondering about my other two. My Ancona laid three eggs the week of September 22.... and nothing since then! I'm wondering if I will have to wait until spring for her to start laying again.

The other one is an Australorp and she hasn't started laying yet. She will be 24 weeks tomorrow. Her sister started laying at 19 weeks.

I'm starting to think I might need to wait until spring for eggs from her, as well!

I know I can put light in the coop to speed things along, but 1) I'm lazy and 2) I'd rather they lay longer during their lifetime than a lot of eggs now and none later.

It's funny how we had NO SUMMER (at least, not one to count for much!) and we've headed straight to fall. I love fall! Actually, I love all the seasons, but I really like the light warmish rain, and the smokey fires burning. The apple cider at night. Just starting to wear mock turtlenecks and courderoy stuff. Plus, it's the season of my favorite holiday! Halloween!

I'm going to be a Pirate Wench Vampire.

Is anyone else dressing up?

My DH has been very (very....) slow at building the new coop/tractors for our flock. I think I'm going to have to get grumpy with him and well do it this week. Besides, we saw our neighbor's coop last week.....

It's so cool!!! After, she wanted to see ours, and I am sure ours looked like a studio apartment next to her Hilton. I was hoping to have the (What was to be a greenhouse at one time) barn moved and finished so that they could have a huge (bigger than hers.

) place to spend the winter. I will let them out of course, but I don't think they'll want to be outside as much as in, and I want more room for them to entertain themselves when indoors.
