TurtleChick, We have some AWESOME Orps & Orp breeders here right in our state! You could probably get some great birds, close to home without the worry of chicks being dead in box when opening or eggs that wont develop.
There is a man in Snohomish area who has some AWESOME buffs, some of the best I have seen, he shows them, and will probably have some of his birds at the show in December. This year one of his won BB at the Puyallup Open Class Show!
Also, there is a woman here on BYC Christina, who raises/breeds/ and shows her BBS, and is also working on some Awesome Whites!!
I have Bantam Orps and she also has Bantam Orps and Large Fowl Orps, also the man above has Bantam and Large Fowl Buffs.
I have personally seen all of both of these peoples birds and they ROCK!!

My other thing is being on equal par... He's got his Traaxes (or whatever it is) and his other really impressive build-it-yourself RC car... the least I could have is some poultry that will provide us with eggs and fertilize and keep down the bugs! *bats eyelashes*

DH bought "our son" one of those this year for his birthday, yeah right, it was more for HIM. Man if I could go by the rule my friend does, she says, for every dollar you spend on your hobby with guns etc, I can spend on my hobby, the birds!! Muahaha
I just cant spend that much on the birds, I set my own limits! Plus, limited space, oh and as for quail, I know a gal out in Rochester, whos got the coturnix quail, and buttons. (or atleast last time I talked to her,) PM me and I can get you her email info.

Hi all,

What a great thread so glad I found it!!! We are located in Poulsbo and will also be looking for some Buff Orps - I would LOVE a gold laced Orp also or an other fancy color of this breed, someone mentioned Chocolate Orpingtons in an other thread. TerrasCritters where is the Dec. show you mentioned I really want to attend!!

Currently owned by many miniature longhair Dachshunds, 1 buff Orp and 1 speckled sussex - who loves to squawk and leap for grapes

I'm planning on ordering various breeds from an online hatchery this spring & you're welcome to get in on the fun. Here's the join order to date:
* My friend, Dorothy: 3 chicks (types unknown, definitely 1-2 silkies)
* My chick co-adopter, Dena, aka coffeelady on this board: 3 chicks, incl some silkies
* My neighbor wants a polish crested
* I want 3 chicks, incl a silkie, EE, and possibly a BO

hi jenn! any eggs yet???? tell those girls to get crackin' (well, okay, not CRACKIN' crackin'... just GOING!)!!! thanks again for the offer to get in on a chick order... don't count on me, but i'll keep you posted - still have to convince dh that i MUST HAVE more.... anyone have tips on doing THAT??? i'm also on the fence re: hatchery peeps vs. breeder peeps. on the one hand, it's guaranteed (well, within reason...) girls, on the other hand, it's not-so-guaranteed quality/temperament. that's our main issue with our ee'r - she's a feather picker (no one eating eggs after that one bizarre day, thank goodness - i think one must have gotten laid and broken on the floor) and flighty and easily bored. i'm trying really hard to get girls who are calm and sedate.

terrascritters, i'm gonna pm you... i found korfus kluckers (and the guy she sold her buff flock to), and have emailed both of them.

i'm also pouting cuz i can't go to the show next month - i have to work one of those days, and hubby has to work the other!

There are many different varieties of Orps but we are limited to the varieties here in the states

I am not sure what is being worked on, some people keep that a secret until there "project is complete" the most common are the Buffs, Blacks, Blue, and Splash. We also have White! I know a few people working on Lavendar, with Lavendars on the ground, but the birds available are limited due to trying to improve there own Lavendar line still. I do believe I have seen/read of people working on the laced varieties and possably chocolate. Can't remember for sure, but those are also very limited if at all available right now, whice i dont imagine so.

I supose you could probably spend a couple few bucks to be sure to only get a couple pullets, and not have extra's, by letting the breeder (if they agree) to grow out a batch and then sell you pullets, of course that will probably cost a little more, but atleast youll have a better chance at getting exactly what you want.
If I were to order chicks, and hope to get 2-3 pullets I would atleast get 10 chicks, even if they were sexed, because chick sexing is not alway 100% If you did order 10 and had extra roos and pullets, I do not think you would have a problem selling in pairs/trio's of your extra's. Take them to shows, list them here, and other classified places.

Hey everyone, I'm down in Orting, about 30 mins or so from Tacoma, just outside of Puyallup. We've got 5 dogs, 4 cats, 50-some chickens and 20-some ducks ( half are Muscovy's).


Does anyone around the Puyallup/Tacoma area have any Indian Runner duck hens, eggs or babies? We really wanted to get more hens but can do with babies...I've never incubated duck eggs but i wouldn't mind trying.

windy windy wind! anyone else freezing their tushies off today, or is it just me??? i've been cold all day - and my kids keep stealing my slippers!!!

peeps don't care, though - the wind makes them a bit jumpy, but they like scritching through all the leaves and pine needles that get knocked down!
