I am super excited to have a friend this close. How old is your son? I may know him or have gone to school with him. My DH is from hoquiam and i am from monte!
Welcome to our obsession! I am over in Olalla where they have the road all ripped up. I have 3 chickens that I got from Del's last year as a set of 6 but split them with a friend. We get 3 different colored eggs everyday. I don't needs to dye easter eggs this year!
Just that I might anwser a guestion for you.

I am hoping for eggs around the first of May. I am fairly certain they are all hens, no spurs no big combs or wattles and most importantly no crowing. They are now fully feathered except for those cute fuzzy butts, does that stay or do they eventually loss those?
Glad to hear from members in our beautiful Olympic Penninsula region! I foundly refer to this side of the state as the "wet side of Washington", and appreciate all the wonderful greenery we have.
And Mike, I'm happy to hear they'll keep their fuzzy butts, they just look so cute! I have also notice that their combs are getting more pronounced and more of a dark reddish pinkish color. ALthough with Wynadottes I don't think their combs will get overly big, but my understanding that this is a sign that they are reaching maturity; thinking eggs by the first of May
PSS: Melissa in Hoquiam I'll pm you only if you "pinkie swear" not to tempt me with more chickens - at least not just now. I know when I'm pushing my ever patient DH over the edge!
I started with 6 then 16 in the summer and then this spring....WHAM! got 25 from Clayton, 60 from Dells, 35 from Cackle and as I type my DH is at Dells again getting an incubator for the eggs I have.
It has gotten so bad I am going to look at a farm house in Copalis Beach tomorrow because my chickens need more room!
Okay - Melissa, you get my vote for crazy chicken lady-shopping for a new house because your chickens need more room!
I'm trying to remember how to post a picture, I've got new hen pictures I wanted to share, I did it once...cross your fingers that this works. They are about four months old now, the reddish ones are two weeks older then the SLW. So far they are all doing really well, getting bigger by the day and eating their fool heads off.
