The weather was great. We were outside yesterday working on our coop and today working on our run. We had to stop today when Joe cut his finger and cut through the tendon. So off to the ER, we're back home after 8 stiches and a warning to be careful because if he over uses that finger he could rip the tendon completely apart and have to have surgery.

DNAG IT JOE !!! Ya gotta be careful. I know that is not a fun time been there done that. At least ya had DDW to take ya in. I had to drive myself in and back home. Listen to the doc there is nothin so important that it's worth messin up yer hand worse and permanantly (sp).

Hi all you chickaneers! I am a newbie although I have been reading the washingtonians thread for at least a couple of months now. BF, two kids and I live in North Bothell (between Lynnwood and Snohomish) Kids and I have been talking about chickens for well over a year now. Didn't get any last year b/c we put in a raised bed vegetable garden. TONS of loads of lumber, dirt and horse manure. BF (AKA the labor) was very happy that was over.

So this year we embarked on chickening. We agreed on 3 chickens. I got addicted and totally out of control and now we have nine chicks. Today I tried, unsuccessfully, to convince BF we had ten already so he wouldn't notice if I snuck another one in. Last week I showed up at work at 10:30am b/c I was picking up chicks and then left at 3 so I could get another one! Is there some sort of 12-step program for chicken obsession?

Over the last few weeks The Labor has had to haul in tons of lumber and fencing and chicken parapharnalia (and two more loads of manure for the new pumpkin patch). Poor boy thought it was all over last year! Now we have to race to build a coop b/f our four oldest chicks outgrow the bathroom.

Laura78 - sorry to hear about the finger. I have to make sure The Labor doesn't find out.....I don't have any time for a labor strike!

Current chicks in various stages: 2 Buff Orps and one each of the rest - RIR, Barred Rock, Black Australorp, Welsummer, Speckled Sussex, Giant Cochin of mystery color, and Bantam Gray Silkie.

Nice to meet all of you! Happy chickening in the sun!

Welcome Suburbanchick!

Sorry about the finger! We were also working on our new coop...(cough cough...that would be our THIRD coop....YES! It is a total addiciton!!). The kids have spring break this week and DH took it off as well. Hoping to get it done in the next couple of days. We have 9 week old chicks in the basement that NEED to move outside!!!

Enjoy the sun/warmth tomorrow everyone!

Oh Laura I am so sorry to hear about Joe. I hope that he follows doctors orders because tendon surgery is no fun. I had it on an ankle tendon though but I think finger would be worse.
Take care Joe!

Thank you. I hope he listens too, but knowing him, once he thinks he's healed he'll be back to using it full time like nothing happened. He wasn't even in any pain until they went to numb him up!

Laura Tell Joe I can totally relate to that numbing. That hurts like H***. The last time I cut 2 fingers and tried to get the doc to skip the numbing and just get-r-done he would not he said he had to numb it. What I hate is when it starts to were off and it feels like yer finger is gonna splode.
Joe now ya take care of dat finger and don't over do it. I know it's a hassle but trust me you don't want the results of over doing it.
Take care and good luck.
Rob

Your Joe sounds a lot like my Dave. He has surgery for hernia's and week later he is out in his shed scooting a table saw and also picking up a kayak. I got really ticked at him. He does not listen to what anyone says as soon as he feels good he is up and at it.

Joe also has 3 torn disks in his neck from trying to walk an English Mastiff. The guy is non stop. Me, I've got athritus in my ankles and I'm a whimp about it, lol. Even after tearing his disks he kept right on working (a CNC maint tech) and we kept right on hiking, easy hikes for me though, lol.
