Hi all you chickaneers! I am a newbie although I have been reading the washingtonians thread for at least a couple of months now. BF, two kids and I live in North Bothell (between Lynnwood and Snohomish) Kids and I have been talking about chickens for well over a year now. Didn't get any last year b/c we put in a raised bed vegetable garden. TONS of loads of lumber, dirt and horse manure. BF (AKA the labor) was very happy that was over.
So this year we embarked on chickening. We agreed on 3 chickens. I got addicted and totally out of control and now we have nine chicks. Today I tried, unsuccessfully, to convince BF we had ten already so he wouldn't notice if I snuck another one in. Last week I showed up at work at 10:30am b/c I was picking up chicks and then left at 3 so I could get another one! Is there some sort of 12-step program for chicken obsession?
Over the last few weeks The Labor has had to haul in tons of lumber and fencing and chicken parapharnalia (and two more loads of manure for the new pumpkin patch). Poor boy thought it was all over last year! Now we have to race to build a coop b/f our four oldest chicks outgrow the bathroom.
Laura78 - sorry to hear about the finger. I have to make sure The Labor doesn't find out.....I don't have any time for a labor strike!
Current chicks in various stages: 2 Buff Orps and one each of the rest - RIR, Barred Rock, Black Australorp, Welsummer, Speckled Sussex, Giant Cochin of mystery color, and Bantam Gray Silkie.
Nice to meet all of you! Happy chickening in the sun!
