This is such an addictive little hobby. Tomato Lady and I both just bought 2 Blue Andalusian chicks each. It would be a drive for you but Webster RD Feed got in 300 chicks a week ago. I thought I would be done with chicks in the brooder by now but some how they just keep showing up. I am beginning to think I might be the problem.

I haven't got a half blind chicken but I do have a Yorkie that lost his eye this summer. I do know that I am much more traumatized than Teddy is. He was play ball 2 days after the event. I am fairly sure that your hen will not care, and it might even help you be able to catch her more often.

Justbugged, I've read all the literature, watched youtube videos, and lurk in the meat bird forums, now I want to participate. Well, I think I do anyway. I'm a scaredy cat, in that I mostly need to be shown how to do something before I'll try it on my own.

I don't have anything to process

My ducks are for laying or breeding... i.e. pets. But I would like to know how to do it. I would much rather eat an injured bird than start a duck graveyard in my backyard... And if it is something I could do, then I would buy some meat birds.

1 Pair of black & white muscovies. These guys are 6 years old. The duck still lays an abundance of eggs, sits and hatches ducklings. VERY good mother--will hatch anything. The drake is hilarious and friendly...still making fertile eggs, too! These are neg. to the perfect home!

We are going to get meat birds this coming spring. You would be more than welcome to come watch and or help then. I am going to have to try to get others to help eat some of the chicken. I will have buy at least 25 of the red broilers, and I don't think my DH and I can eat that much in a year. I don't know if this will help for now, but I will keep you in mind if something comes up sooner. Enumclaw to the Key Peninsula isn't way to far to drive. My DH travels weekly and doesn't care to go anywhere when he gets home on the weekends.

Hi weaveagarden here is the link to the hatchery in Idaho for the red broilers. http://www.dunlaphatchery.net/Broiler.aspx
They are a Cornish cross that does better than the white Cornish Xs. They are slower growing but to to slow. A local chicken farmer told me about this hatchery.
