So excited, got my first eggS!

I came home from town yesterday to find Noodle sitting on our bag of pine shavings, looked under her and found her first egg! Oh, I was so excited LOL Then, 1/2 hour later, I was leaving to go to my son's soccer game, looked out there and found yet another egg in the "nest." So I now have 2 layers

Thats Great, LaSombra.....

Your first egg looks great

So far we have one of the 4 laying. Does your chicken do the funny squat thing? Mine did that a little before she started to lay and now I have a second girl doing the squat. More eggs I hope.

I haven't noticed any squatting, actually... but the one in those pics has been mated by the rooster, so I knew she was at least close to being ready... Not sure who layed the other egg though. No squatters, though.

Congratulations on your eggs LaSombra thats great!!! This is so much fun!!!!

Ok so my beautiful chicken hutch is done WooHoo:celebrate:weee SO now I just have to move everybody into it. I think that I will lock them inside it for 2 days, hopefully that will be enough to get them to use it. I am so excited!!! I hope the girls love their new digs

Have a great day everyone!!!

ok, I have a question about egg color ~ breeds. I have been collecting eggs from my neighbors' chickens (chicken sitting) and their barred rock eggs are a lighter color from the eggs I've been getting. That means than probably none of the eggs are from my barred rocks. Anyway, do black sex links lay the same color eggs as gold/red sex links? If not, I wonder if I just missed that first egg for a day and the same girl has laid all 3 of the eggs I've found. They're all the exact same size, shape and color...

Anyone know?

I got my first egg last Sunday, but it was broken. Looks like one of my girls let it go while she was on the roost. Then on Wednesday I had a little brown egg in one of the nest boxes. On Thurdays another broken one, this time it was right next to the pop door. Now get this one !! this morning my daughter came in and said. Hey dad I had a dream last night you went out to look for eggs and you said there wasn't any. but I went out and looked and found one. So I told her, well there's NOT any today I just checked (8:00am). so about 10:00am she went out and sure enough there was an egg!!!!
MY barred Rock rooster crowed for the first time today too. twice at about 11:00am and then twice at 5:00pm sounded just like an old pro

I'm also in Battle Ground, WA.

I breed and show my Seramas. 10 Adults & 16 youngsters.
