That is exactly how I feel. Right now the city council here is going to try to shut us chicken owners down, or at least limit us to very few hens only. I want so badly to find a little bit of land out of town to live on. I have even played around with the idea of having a small intentional community, so that I can do my own idea of self sufficiency.

By the way, try roasting your own coffee from green beans. It is the best, and you can make it dark or medium as you prefer. You can even do it in a fry pan, or in the oven. Easy peasy!!!

I've been very interested in intentional community for quite a while. Hopefully I'll be getting an internship at a farm/IC in Indianola next year. I have notebooks filled with a lot of IC research I've done over the years. The notebooks even have all my ideas and plans... whatnot.

This next year I'm going to try to grow most of the feed the ducks/geese need, though I expect I'll need to supplement in the winter. My other growing project is trying to grow everything I need to make my own humus. I know I won't be able to grown the sesame for the tahini, but I think I can make it taste good anyway. I have a small garden area, but think I can do it!

Let me know if you ever want to take your plans and give it go. I think I am very close to putting my place up for sale, and would be up for investing it into a viable community that would still give me my privacy at times.

Sometimes I really need it..

Hello all - I have a quick questions and am hoping someone here has an answer. I want to see the Mad City Chickens film tonight in Seattle but I don't know if it is appropriate for my kids (ages 6 and 7). Have any of you seen it????

I found someone living up by Mt. Rainier who is giving away some new egg cartons (craigslist find).

They were ordered by a chicken farm to use for their Organic eggs so they are printed with the name of the farm and they say organic. They are styrofoam cartons and that didn't set well with their organic egg customers so they did not use them. They are new and I AM THE WINNER!!.

I get them all! Great find!!?? Are you all excited for me? Thinking, what an opportunity?? Not so fast.

There are 1,500 cartons -- that is a TRUCK LOAD of cartons. My poor girls are going to be soooo stressed when they see me coming home with enough cartons for 18,000 eggs!

Not to mention my DH, who will be surprised for sure.

So here is the deal. I am picking them up this afternoon. If you live close enough that you feel you want to come get some of these free egg cartons, PM me. (you don't have to pick them up today, just soon) I will be happy to share. I live between Graham and Eatonville so it could be a nice drive in the country.

Don't know how I missed this ad:

Snowy Colored Call Ducks - $15 (Tacoma)

"After eight years of raising ducks, a County Ordinance forces us to reduce our flock!

Four Snowy Colored Call Ducks. They're little ducks. They're from our award-winning line of ducks. See: www.skyclyde.com.
They're beautiful and fun: walking yard art.

We have three females and one male to sell. We'll sell them for $15 each, but we'll negotiate the price lower if you'll take them all & provide them a good home.

Please email us if you'd like to have them." [email protected]
