Any of you interested in Discus or Albino Bushynose let me know. Come on over and check them out as the pictures do not do them justice. This is my other hobby but the economy is forcing me to sell.

Is anyone else missing thier chickens? I work during the day, and I saw them for a couple of minutes this morning, but they were already in "bed" when I got home.

I was thinking to myself, so this is what it's going to be like all winter? I do have to admit that I get off work early on Thursdays and I don't work Fridays so I will see them more then. But seriously, this is my first winter and I am wondering if any of you go through withdrawls?

I just love watching them and got used to having a lot of time with them this summer. What do I do now?

I don't work right now, but I totally agree about missing my interaction with my flock. It has been so cold, wet or dark that I am spending about 1/10th the time that I did just a month ago. I am going to see if I can't get some rain gear, and will pull out my wool socks, hats and gloves. I am also going to plan a roof on my deck for next winter.

You might put a light in your coop on a timer so that you can fool them into staying up later.

Regarding Egg recipes::: I am a big fan of a mostly egg white omlet. I use 6 whites and only 2 yolks. My favorite is to use sharp cheddar cheese or Asiago (just enough to flavor, not drown) and fresh fried mushroom. Then I add salsa and lots of fresh cilantro after plating the omlet. The cilantro is the star! It isn't an ingredient to skip. Yummmmmmm!!!!!!

I cook up the yolks and mash and add them in to my chick's starter. Or if no chicks, the dog gets them. They give him a beautiful coat. I don't have eggs from chickens yet, so I don't mourn the loss of the great egg yolks yet. I may have to change my recipe once I have those really fresh eggs.

Edited to say: Fresh eggs are great gifts for family, coworkers, friends and neighbors. Or as a host gift if you go to someone's house.
