Thanks Rainplace;

I have emailed them to find out about where they live so I can find a close store to them. I will let you know and anyone else that may be able to help them out.

Worn, I understand what you are saying, hopefully they will get back on their feet quickly. I do not live anywhere near Maplevalley or I would offer to take a few from them but I also understand the not wanting to get rid of any of your pets. Its devastating enough to be unemloyed but then to have to get rid of your pets is even harder. Hopefully a little help for them will get them to a better position.

I will let you know when I get more information.

Sounds like lots of you, would like to help the people in Maple valley out. Maybe they should cut their flock in half. But I sure wouldn't want to have to cut my flock in half. If five of us gave ONE 25 or 50 pound bag. it could get them thru to the summer. we could each pick a month. I don't get on here every day. If someone comes up with a contact (email or phone) number for these people could you PLEASE pass it on to me [email protected] Thanks

If anyone that lives too far away would like to help. you can email me and I will buy food for the amount you want to donate. and I can send you the receipt from the store. I can deliver the food. I'm about 30 miles away from there

I contacted them just a little while ago via email. I explainded that I can donate a bag a month for the next few months. But that they would have to come get it from me at my work in Bellevue. RonB if you are willing to take it to them, I could give you a bag. I just didn't want to give them too much at a time, so it doesn't go bad. Can you freeze the feed? I was planning on getting a 50lb bag tomorrow morning or Tuesday morning. I will get in touch with you when I have heard from them, unless someone else already has.

I haven't posted in quite some time but have enjoyed reading posts. I wanted to let Worn know that their place looks like a slice of paradise. What a lovely spot to live in - thanks for sharing.

The duck rescue story made my day, I have this mental picture of two very bedraggled BYC nuts dodging lightning bolts and risking life and limb to rescue those poor little ducks. Way to go!!!!!

I am also working on recovering from a bad bout of the flu.....the worst I've caught in years! We both missed an entire week of work, but no way did we want to share our germs, this stuff is bad.

We did recover enough by this morning to work on upgrading our run, we felt sorry for our girls with all the recent stormy weather. We took pvc pipe, went inside the run and flexed it into a arch under the wire top, I held it in place with a rake, while my DH zip tied it each of the four arches into place. Then we put a tarp over the top, with enough to go to the ground on one side, also zip tied into place. The bonus is that the arched pipes raise the interior height and add support to wire top, plus the water will easily run off the tarp. This was a quick and inexpensive fix, looks very sturdy, should also provide a windbreak. From the coop to 12 feet out is now covered, plus the area under the coop.

Then I raked up enough leaves for a thick layer over the mud. A temporary fix I know, but they are enjoying themselves scratching through it and finding lots of little treats. The next project will be to add sand, we did find that a little water was blowing under the access hatch for the nest boxes, it wasn't getting into the nests, but running into the litter below, a little weather stripping (out of beaks reach) took care of the that. Other then that one little spot we have been very happy with our coop design, the girls seem warm and cozy.

Anneschicks,

I just looked at your BYC page, and your coop is one of the ones I got my design from. Especially the idea to make the whole end open up. I couln't do it exactly like that but one end opens up all the way across so I can just rake litter out into a wheelbarrow. Wanted easy cleaning, and you gave me inspiration. And yes Nyrial and I were very wet, but happy we were able to get them. My boots are still a little damp!

But it was worth it. Nyrial has the hard job, she either has to decide to keep them or rehome them.

ETA- I am glad you are feeling better, My 10 yr old had it earlier this week, but none of the rest of us have gotten sick yet.

Thanks AnnesChicks! I'm glad your on the upswing from the flu... Glad you were able to get the run done for the girls.... We used to live in Shelton. Not too far from Aberdeen. I've been to Aberdeen many times. My uncle used to live there. It's another beautiful place on the sound. It went through some hard times many years ago economically. I remember when you could get a house in town pretty reasonable. I think it was during the spotted owl and logging era.

Hi Everyone;

I just spoke to the man in Maple Valley. HE is extremely grateful for the help from anyone that is able. His closest feed store is Reber Ranch in Kent, there address is 28606 132nd Avenue S.E., Kent Washington 98042, there phone # is 253-630-3330. I was going to try and contact them tomorrow and purchase two sacks of layer pellets. He feeds the pellets. If you want to contact him here is his information that he sent back to me:

Thank you so much for such a rapid response. I live in the Maple Valley Hights area. my phone number is 425-255-0805 and I will be home tonight at about 6:00 this evening if you would like to call. Thanks again -- Michael Smith

I just spoke to him by phone and he is extremely thankful for the help. He has offered to do work in exchange if anyone needs it.

You guys are all awesome people and it is nice to know there a people willing to help others in their time of need. THanks for offering to pitch in.

If you are able to help please let me know you were able to do it. If there is anyone that lives close to them and wants to help them with delivery that would be great too, although he said that he can pick up from anywhere just to let him know.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Michelle

Thanks Michelle! I emailed him but this will be easier. I plan on helping out too. If you are getting 2 bags for him, I will wait until he gets closer to needing more then buy some for him. I really like doing things like this for people and their animals. I couldn't get rid of any of my girls. I don't want to be taken advantage of, but it feels good to help when I can.

Thanks KM;

I always feel that we should try and help when we can. We are all going through rough times right now and I am a single mom and a very limited income but always know that there may be someone that is having a harder time than me. I was blessed this week with a little extra so helping someone else be blessed is important. You are wonderful to be willing to help them. Hopefully the feed store is ok with taking money over the phone for the purchase. I figure two bags should get him through about 2 weeks.

Thanks again
