Good Morning Everyone!
It looks like a great day in the making. The sky is blue and beautiful. The chickens are out pecking at the frozen ice in the puddles outside. It must have gotten very cold last night.

Rainplace:
Have you tried Valarian. It is an herb that I used a few years ago when I had insomnia. They have tea, but get the capsules. It really stinks like highly fermented grass, or skunk cabbage! But it worked great for me.

Good morning! It is ca ca cold outside.
I went to let my scovies, silkies and turkeys out. It would have been the first time they are out of their new coop 'homing in'
The turkeys came out, and WOW can they FLY. I know I have read on here about that- but they really really fly, it is amazing to see such big birds flying around after me. I lost my nerve, they are such friendly birds, so when I got a chance to grab the hen I did- and they are back inside.
I am debating if I should run a heat lamp out for my silkies and scovies- they sleep all cuddled together, it got COLD last night

Oh, a cochlear implant... Wow! How cool. I have never known anybody with one of those. Do you have them in both ears?

Diphenhydramine leaves me with a sleepiness hangover, so I started using the valarian which seem to be out of my system after about 4-6 hours. I don't use it now, because I don't have to sleep in a frame dictated by a job. Now I just head back to bed if I didn't get enough at night.

One reason that I thought the Valarian would work for me is that I could sleep when I was in the bathtub. I know now that is also a situation related to my autonomic dysfunction. In water everything floats. It makes the oxygen get to my head better for some reason. My insomnia is related to the fact that I wake up an average of 58 times per hour according to my sleep study. I have a C-pap now (which I need to get back to using). It solves the low oxygen situation at night.

Oh, Weavegarden ended up with a muscovy drake... and can't get him dispatched. I'm feeling a dejavu... They are pretty personable though.

justbugged... still have the new cat under the bed?

herbandteas, i have nightmares i can't wake up from when i use sleeping aids. i have some tylenol pm and a prescription both sitting in my medicine cabinet. they scare the crud outa me. when i get back from florida i'll start searching around for some natural remedies. i know some about herbs and roots... lol i even grow a lot of them, for some reason i just haven't made anything out of any of them yet.

i'm off to work. i'll talk with you all later.

i can't take anything with valarian due to taking anti depressants and sometimes migrain meds. So for now thats what I am using to get to sleep. I just have one implant as they reserve the use of 2 implants for children.

I think the cat (aka Misery) is hiding in my husbands office.

The husband will not approve of that! At least I hope that's were the cat is. So I guess the answer is I really don't know.

The other kitten (aka Ellis) that is a keeper has been playing really hard all morning with the last 2 puppies that I still have. The pups gang up on poor Ellis and thump, and slobber all over him pretty good. The little cat just gets up and drys himself off, and goes back for more.

So does my Senior female cat.

I think I could get you a name of a really good Chinese herbalist. The herbalist is up on Beacon Hill, in the Seattle area, if you would like? A friend of mine's father had his life extended during his last battle with cancer and heart disease.

Other Subjects:

If anyone has been feeding hummingbirds this summer. You will need to know that not all of the grumpy, mean little birds migrate. I found this out the hard way last year during the blizzard. I might have to get the hummingbird food heater out again, and make sure the little birds continue to have access to food during the cold snap. I have 2 or 3 birds that depend on me all year long.

Oh well what's a few more critters.

I am praying that the chicken's auto watering system didn't freeze to hard last night, and break. I think I am going to need to do something about it, but I going to have to call the DH Service Tech. to find out what to do for it. DH is teaching a class today in Racine WI. I hate it when I can't call him just anytime to ask a question, or just hear his voice.

I cried when I found the girls without water this morning.

I also need to figure out how to heat the greenhouse so that all the plants (mostly Geraniums) don't freeze to hard tonight. I am going to put blankets over the top of the greenhouse to try to insulate, so that the little space heater has a chance to keep up with the space, and the cold. Oh well I have a lot to do today. I'll check out the thread tonight. Have a good day all. Christina

Hello! Wow, I should have looked her sooner - I didn't know so many were so local! I thought I was one of few who were in the PNW.

Well, I live in Forks, (Twilight town) where I sadly cannot humanely have such breeds as Silkies, but was wondering if there are nearby (not eastern WA though) breeders of: Black Copper Marans, Brahmas, Faverolles, Oriental Game birds (Shamo, Asil, Thai, etc ) or Araucanas? (all in standard size, not Bantam)

I just noticed Willow Hill is just to the east of me! I will certainly be looking there this Spring

So, anyone I should know of that lives within 80 miles of me? (Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend) ?

Welcome! I know someone in Kingston that usually has maran's for sale and then there is someone out in seabeck that has ameracauna's. Where ever there is a feed store there should be a board to post things for sale or wanted. Try that or even the little nickle might have a listing for chickens too.

Well, another day, and still no insulation in the coop! No Roosts made! Not even a cleaned out coop! No happy Cindy!

I am not sure what I am going to have to do to get this job done. At 9AM, I am going to do it myself I think. I threatened to today and got my friend and my parents all concerned, so I decided not to worry them. But I just can't stand it any longer. If you don't hear from me after morning tomorrow, check the morgues. Just kidding. I think I can do a lot of this myself. I just have to pace myself, and have a chair handy. The worst thing that can happen is that I will faint into the coop and get covered in chicken s**t. Well, OK..... they may take advantage of the fact that I am down to their height and peck my beady little eyes out like they have been threatening.

I had a devil of a time keeping everyone in the yard today. I kept chasing them back in. Then this afternoon we heard a huge explosion and I walked out to talk to the neighbors as we were trying to figure out what it was. I guess something exploded at the Bio-diesel plant. You all probably know better than I since I don't have any TV. Anyway, when I got back, every last one of them was out and headed north. I think they wanted to get in on the conversation. One of them even got out of the outer buffer area... Time to feed her better so she won't fit through the fence.

I have a bunch of chicks that just hatched last week and I am giving' them away to BYC friends.
Just PM me and I will get back to you with availability.
