got Satan from TomatoLady.

Then Satan just became Misery a little over a week ago. What a relief!

I still didn't find Misery last night.

Now I am going to have to keep looking for Misery today also.

Vicki: The goats would would just contribute to my delinquency. I know that the goats would be having me drive them down to the biker bars in no time.

SO NO GOATS! Well on the other hand just maybe if I ever get out of this sub-division house, and find a farm..........

I must confess I did give Ironimagery Bugs. I offered and he accepted, and his wife let him.

I am not sure what that says about either of us.

When I put the eggs in lock down late Tuesday night, I candled 2 of them, and I thought that the eggs they were all going to be bad.

But I figured that as long as I had come this far, what was 3 more days. I opened the door to DH's office this morning, to make sure Misery wasn't stuck in there, and I heard cheeping. I am so thrilled!

At this point the little chick will have cost me the best part of 30.00$. Oh well! better something than nothing, and I could still get more to hatch. Who cares if Misery is lost in my house if I have baby chicks.

Welcome all the new comers!

I would really recommend that if you can read the last 2 months worth of posts, so that some of this thread is understandable. There is a lot of fun on this thread. P.S. Misery is a very unhappy kitten.

Sounds like the makings of a great party. Are we all invited ironimagery?

I am squeezing chickens myself today. So far, I have found 1 warm brown egg from Francie, and 1 very cold olive egg from Oddrey (I changed the spelling yesterday - fits her better). Willow and Roz are singing up a storm in the coop, and Midge is harmonizing in the yard. I also have a dark cornish, Mya, who is making plenty of noise. I can't imagine that she is ready to lay right now. She has to be cold right now.

Plans for Breakfast for dinner at the folks tonight with all of my eggs. They are so small most of them so I am not sure how many we will need for some really great omlets. They are so cute that I am tempted to boil them for deviled eggs.

edited to say: Roz is back to smallish eggs.... Just got one from her in the coop - only on in the coop today. I am tired of easter egg hunts!

Welcome to the Washington thread, Cockockockaa.

I got 16 eggs yesterday! That is an all time high for me. I have four EEs. One lays an ugly olive egg, one lays a pinkish brown egg, one lays a pretty green egg, and one lays a beartiful blue egg. My others lay from light to quite dark brown, some with a few speckles. Not sure how many of my 28 pullets are laying now, but I am getting some little pullet eggs so I am sure I am still having girls coming on line.

This morning I went out in the cold at the break of dawn and there were 5 eggs already. I think they had to get up before daylight to do that. Maybe that is why I occasionally find an egg under their roosts.

Justbugged, Congratulations on your new arrival! Hope you have more little ones hatch.

And thanks for your offer to brood babies for me.

About Misery, I do worry that maybe she got in someplace she cannot get out of. I once let my kids play with a small suitcase. At that time we had young ones of our own and I fostered a young handicaped boy. Well, they were all having so much fun with that suitcase I just let them play. They played with it all day. About three days later there was this awful smell in the house.

It couldn't figure out where it was coming from, but it continued to get stronger and more pervasive.

I also was looking for my big orange cat that I couldn't find. Need I say more? Unfortunately, I didn't get the connection until I opened the suitcase to see why it was so heavy.

ewe... there is a similar story known among us navy wives about making sure all cats are accounted for before you pack your sofa into storage crates to send overseas

I got new carpet in the house today, my oldest is sick
the house is in ruins since everything is out of the carpeted rooms

I clipped the turkey's wings and let everyone out free range today. The ducks were free range before, so they came out- but it is 1:30 an dthe turkeys and silkies have not left the coop yet LOL
I got some more shavings for their coop so they can stay snuggly warm tonight, trying to decide if I want to start a heat lamp out there

Filling excess space in chicken houses with extra straw tonight. Giving the pigs fresh straw... not too worried about the ducks and turkeys, their house is caulked, although I might get some plastic on the outside of the window.

Everyone got warm oatmeal this morning, the girls got soooo excited when they saw the mash trays getting brought out.

even though i lost 2 chickens at the beginning of the week.... i think its this cold that is keeping them from laying more than 2-3 eggs a day... yesterday i got 3. the day before 8. so far today 2 eggs. this morning it was 15 out..... so apparently i have 2 hens who are not affected by the cold as much.... i give them tons of scratch mid day and at night to give them energy to stay warm.

I did.

I used the basic Quaker Oatmeal recipe for 8 cups of oatmeal (we buy at costco) I added 2 cups of crumbles, 2 cups of scratch, and a scoop of protein powder.

I added the protein because I'm feeding extra scratch since it's been so cold, and wanted to give them a boost.

such large quantities because I'm feeding so many little piggies.. literally and feathered.

The natural food stores have oat groats as well as other whole grains for relatively cheap. I mix up 1/2 oat groats and 1/2 combo of red wheat, rye, barley, buckwheat, millet, amaranth, flax seed, sesame seed, sunflower seed...etc, whatever fruit I have on hand. I soak overnight and cook up a big pot of kashi type cereal. And after it cools a little bit, I fold in some yogurt. I get what I want out of it, and what Moody gets to eat, and then add the chicken starter. The girls have loved it everytime I have made it (As does Moody), and I don't have to make a breakfast for each of us, just one big pot. I love Kashi and all things cooked and whole grain!

FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!!

One of the rescued hens at my mom's place just layed her first egg. It is a decent size small light brown egg. When I got over to look at the hens, it turns out that one of the 3 is an Red EE, so she can expect possible green eggs soon as well. Less than one week on 24% protein, and she is good to go. My mom is so excited! It has been a long time since she had chickens, and I think this is the only time she has been able to really enjoy them.

So RonB; The count so far tonight is 1 green and 2 brown. I think Willow is likely to lay overnight because they were all out of the coop today in the cold because my friend is (wait for it........) INSULATING THE COOP. Willow has been egg songing all day, and hasn't ever layed out of the coop so far, so maybe. Oh, in fact, I think I hear her out there now. Ironic!

So, other than the fact that I am dead tired, it has been a fantastic day. Breakfast for dinner put off until Saturday. Delicata Squash, Brussel sprouts and Fried Tofu with Bacon andTropical Jerk Sauce for dinner tonight. Yummy!
