How many chickens are you feeding with EIGHT cups of oatmeal? sounds like enought for an army! do you keep it more than one day? I get oatmeal at work. I just boil water then throw in the oatmeal. I don't add anything to it maybe I will try adding something

I HAVE A PROBLEM !!

. actually one of my white leghorn does. I posted a few days ago about her laying three eggs in a row without a shell, just the rubber like ball. Today I noticed while all my chickens were free ranging, she just kind of stood around. I noticed the feathers around her vent kept moving like she had to poop. but nothing came out. Finally I saw her go into the coop so I followed her in. There was a egg on the floor still Hot NO shell or even the rubbery kind of egg. looked like a egg in the frying pan. I noticed her vent was dripping abit. She has the SAME diet as all the others. they get oyster shell

ANY IDEA's ????? I'm stumped: idunno

This
is a post from earlier this year. Have you read it? There may be some info there.

Why not try quarentining her just in case, and then you can also watch her intake, as well as give her some extra TLC. My first line of defense was always going to be Apple Cider Vinegar in the water and Yogurt if I encountered a problem. Seems like the yogurt would also help the calcium problem if it is an absorbency issue. I have also heard that pumpkin seeds and pumpkin are good for worms. I know in humans that both of these are good to help to cleanse the bowel. If it is a mal-absorbancy problem with her nutrients, this may help in the same way it does for people. I would also mix a little bit of ground flax seed in to her mash, just because it is good for her and has Vit B that helps with stress.

Also, maybe she is over indulging in some treat that you are feeding to everyone. Some things are high in one nutrient or another. Could it be an overdose of a particular vitamin? Too much of the oil soluable vitamins or of minerals can cause some problems I have heard.

Hi Ron,

I don't have personal experience with it, but I've followed a couple of threads recently about internal laying. Maybe you should see if she'll eat some tums. Lots of calcium and some hens just don't seem to like the oyster shell. Anyhow, it's easy, cheap, and won't hurt....

Good luck!!

14 chickens, 6 ducks, 2 turkeys.. I offer it to the chicks (15?) as well, they just pick at it though. Really they're not so much chicks anymore, they're 13ish and 9ish weeks old, so they're pretty good size, except the bantams of course.

That's 8 cups cooked of course, not dry

As for keeping it, I don't see why you couldn't freeze it in serving sizes and thaw in the microwave... That's an idea I might try.

That doesn't seem like too much to me... Especially with the Turkeys in the mix. I am feeding it to 13 basically full sized chickens. They can consume a good 1 cup + each, maybe as much as 2 cups for some. Since I also use the seeds, Rye and Buckwheat, as well as yogurt, it isn't at all bad if they skip their feed for the day. I wouldn't do the same amount if everyday however. I also made this with scrambled eggs added in for them when they were feather picking, to up the protein even more. It seemed to do the trick, or kept them so full the feathers wouldn't fit in their crops.

OK Kittymomma,

Kim just called and is at Mike's picking me up some chicks. The count is now 8. I just want 2 nice hens for the dark brown eggs, but this way I will be able to pick, and will try to find homes for the rest. So, anybody who wants a Black Copper Marans or Barnevelder Roo should all take a step to the front of the line and get your bid in.

I will be raising and quarentining them for a few weeks. When I know which two I want to keep the other pullets will also be available and will not have shared space with the rest of my flock. I hope to give them homes before they actually go outside. So they will be ready for your quarentine and then outside.

Anybody know about Genetics of Olive Eggers. I am just starting to learn about these. I think you take a Marens hen and an Ameraucana Roo. The roo provides the blue shell genetics, and the hen genes provide the ability to overlay it with the dark brown color. Some chicks will end up to be olive eggers. They are beautiful eggs almost a bronze color. I think I will try this in the future if I can find someone who has an Americauna Roo to help us out. Pinky will only give me black chickens and brown eggs. Pretty though they are, I would love to try to produce something more interesting if I decide to start doing some hatching.

Sure but I don't think it would be much of a party. It is now considerably short of a full 6 and the home made (deer) pepperoni ................... well lets just say it WAS good and went well with Mikes.

Oh well, next time. I just bought a beef stick at the feed store for the dog. Wow, it smells so good. I may have to settle for that tonight.... No Mikes either, but I do have tropical fruit juice in the fridge...... Somehow, it just isn't the same, is it?
