Since Kim came over I hatched one more!
At this time there is no more available. SORRY.

JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS!!! These chicks have some weird white gene in there and I have rid myself of who I think the culprits are!
They have NO value and I have no idea of what kind of eggs they will produce.
That's why there FREE!

Black Marans should have DARK GREY SHANKS WITH FEATHERING these have GREY SHANKS and YELLOW TOES and NO FEATHERING on the shank.
Make sense?

Like I said these, birds are offered only for somebody to enjoy at my expense.
DO NOT EXPECT TO GET SOME SHOW CLASS GRADE A TYPE BIRDS.

okay?
Thanx
Mike

Ron,

Here are the 26 best food sources of calcium. In case your hen needs more.
Molasses can have a laxative effect on chickens. And some people don't let their chickens have citrus.

Hope it helps,

Tomorrow I head to Florida to visit with the family. I think I'm going to try the new light rail out to Tukwilla, though I am a bit upset that it doesn't connect to the airport until Dec. 14. I thought it was late November it would connect. Oh well, I can just catch the bus hook-up from there. I'm actually quite excited to give it a go since it's such a pain for us to get to the airport from here. Most places I've traveled I've used public transport to get to my final destination. It's about time we can do that here as well!

Great list, Imp! Thanks for posting that.

Weavegarden, congrats on your new chicks! I know you don't have them right now, but you will by the time I get back... ain't Kim awesome? Good to hear someone came through with helping you with your coop. I bet your chickens are happy too

I'll be checking in when I can. I don't know when my turn comes up again for getting Michael's feed, let me know when it's my turn. I'll be looking in while away. Should I just get it now? I don't remember when I did it last.

So I am sitting here typing with one hand, because i have a chick in the other. Weaveagarden, she is either days younger than the rest, or she/he is failing to thrive. my guess is younger and hasn't figured out how to eat or drink. i gave it some water, a few drops, but haven't gotten it to eat yet. i am going to try avia charge tomorrow. it still has it's egg tooth, which is why i think it is much younger. right now, I am worried it is going to get trampled by the others. they are very cute! i am trying really hard not to get attatched.

Any ideas on how to get it to eat and drink?

I must admit I have had a bit of a hard time with that myself. Is she a maren or barnevelder, and are there more possible females of her kind (I hope, just in case). I think the avia charge is a good idea. If you have to buy that, I can pay you for it. I have been thinking I should pick some of that up to give the ones at my mom's a bit of a boost. But now that she got an egg, who knows. Anyway, it couldn't hurt any of my girls (or pinky and the nameless mass of cockerels, and Archie, and the spraddle leg kid........) Wow, I guess I should count again so I know what I have..... Maybe better not to. On Dec 31 I need to be down to much less than now.

Did I mention that I need a really 'cheep' farm so I can have all the little flyers I want?

I think the best thing is to do a little bit of a prayer and hope for a little divine intervention. Maybe in a day or two she will perk up. One thing is that she is living on yolk right now... So maybe she is OK. They live for up to 3 days after hatch on the yolk. But I appreciate you keeping her from being trampled. And also the extra effort you are taking. You can name her if you like.... Since you are her first mommy. I think that would be nice.

There's a thread in the recipes section which tells how to do that. I tried it at Thanksgiving and it works.

Bring the water to a rolling boil, I added a little salt.
One by one, *gently* lower the eggs into the boiling water. Some will crack.. out of 18, I had 2. I let my eggs sit out for about 3 hours beforehand to try to warm them a bit.
boil for 14 minutes, then remove and immediately douse with ice and cold water.

The shells peeled off easily.

my mom does that. i open the fridge... "Mom! we already have eggs!"...."but they are fresh, i need old ones to peel the shells off easier."

I have a carton that is 3 weeks old now for her to make some for the holidays....

She is a barnvelder. I think there is another one that i am ppretty sure is a girl. i have been looking at the wing feathers and i think there are a few girls in the bunch. i am going to try to take a better look tomorrow and take my best guess.
