So I haven't really noticed the weather much, I've been trapped inside all week long working on finals, final projects, homework, and a midterm. I sure do miss my girls, I haven't seen them at all except for morning chores, and it's dark then!

Boy will I be glad when this week is over.

Not to mention the way they're piling it on at work. Hopefully things will lighten up around here soon. First flight is scheduled for the 15th

Can't wait to see that bird in the air.

I can't believe ya locked poor Pinky and his girls in the microwave just to keep em quiet! :barni
Yes TF I am very aware of the radiator type heaters we have 2 one we use in our bedroom and the other is currently in use at the stables to keep the feed room warm. The main reason I am using all the heat lamps is because I had a lot of them from the days of raising pygmy goats. So it's not like I had to go out and buy them.

Also with the mention about frozen ponds. PLEASE DO NOT attempt to walk on them. ANYBODY!!! Take this from one who has been there before I had the wisdom to know better.

It is a very scary situation to be in. Lucky in my case all turned out OK but it was so scary and something I will never forget or try again.

DO NOT WALK ON FROZEN PONDS .

It was really a chore to get the door closed with all of them in there. But all I had to do was walk close to the microwave button, and not a peep out of the pink guy.

RonB Well, yes you can have some of my eggs. But maybe it will have to be some of yesterday's.... I only got 5 of 12 today. 2 green, 3 brown

The ground wasn't as frosty this AM as the past few nights, but it felt so much colder today until the sun came out. I had a migraine and spent a lot of the day inside. Missed seeing my chickens. Angela, the girl I thought might have been sick in the AM, began eating a bit and pecking around, so I think she may have been suffering from the cold today too. Or maybe she was empathetically channeling my headache. Whatever it is, we both feel better tonight.

Tomorrow was supposed to be much warmer.... We will see. I have the heat cranked up tonight. Finally gave in and put a second heater in this room that I spend most of my time in. Doors snuggly shut, 2 heaters on (One oil radiator, and one of the Edenpures) Finally comfortable enough to not wear my coat or be under a blanket. This is the room that we just remodeled too. It is fully insulated. The rest of the house is like a freezer. I do know that outhouse in the inside bathroom feeling. Brrrrrrrr!

Well, back under the covers with me. Glorious sleep aids, here I come!

If you want to go I will send good luck wishes to you.

We love it here and after living in 6 other states we have lived here the longest not counting our home state (MI too!). I couldn't get out of VA and TX fast enough :-O the others were a bit harder to leave.

I might be interested in giving some of your girls a home if you do go so PM me if you do.

Good Morning Washington!

Frozen Friday - Migraine, Crowing, Boiling Water, Cooking Oatmeal, Frozen Egg, Broken Incandescent, Bird Songing, Shivering, Sunshine breaking through

Nothing new here yet, so back under the covers.

I'm happy today - Clouds are coming over, and the temperature rose up to 38 degrees. Yes, still cold, but I guess myself and the chickens are all so used to 14 now that even my turken is running around.

The frost all melted, the water didn't freeze, and the pipes aren't frozen.

Tomorrow is supposed to precipitate. . . Haven't had that in 12 days. Soooo weird. This is Forks, not the midwest.

I got the ceramic heat emitter today and it came at a good time because of another broken incandescent. Luckily, the filament is breaking, and not the bulb itself. That would be awful.
Anyway, it came, I skrewed it into the brooder lamp. And the girls have checked it out. With luck, it will keep the chicken house nice and toasty at about 35 or 40 degrees.

I hear rumors of Animal Control making visits to some of the chicken owners. Not me yet. I am working on the letter to the council. Wish me luck, please.

6 for 12 eggs today.... One frozen in the coop. All but one (Francie) was layed in the nesting box. I need to get those done soon. One box means shared or standing room only.

Hey Kim. How are the young-uns? It looks like it will be my friend Paul. I think a 2 liter soda bottle filled with hot water should work OK for the heat situation. Do you have one of those I can steal? He will have to refill it, but I think he can handle that. Thanks again.

- Why? I mean, sheesh, are there rumors of mistreatment or complaints or something? As for the letter - Good luck! Really curious of that though.

Hoquiam voted to limit us to 8 hens and no roosters about a month and 1/2 ago. I was legal before that. I am trying to request that they grandfather my previously legal flock in. They probably won't. But a make a pretty good case for it. My doctor has documented my increase in better health since starting down this chicken road. My rooster acts as my eyes and ears and makes it easier for me to keep track of preditors and escapee chickens. Plus, I am pretty attached to him at this point. I am trying to make his crow very quiet during the nighttime. But I don't really think they care. They just don't like chickens much. Trying to make Hoquiam a city rather than the small rural town that it really is.
