That's a great pic of your girls

I've got two EE right now, both laying your typical EE blue egg. One has a slight green cast to it, almost unnoticeable. You have to look at hers next to the other to know.

I just won an ebay auction for some ameraucana eggs and am excited to hopefully have a successful hatch with those. I love having different colors of eggs. On to marans next!

If those are acually real ameraucanas, I would love to get ahold of a cockerel at just the right age to train as a pet and flock master. I love Pinky, but am thinking about trying to raise another rooster who could be a bit more pet-able. Also would love to have him mate with the dark egglayers as the foster place. I would love to have some dark olive-layers.

I have a "Willow" also, she is white. But my Teddy looks like your willow.

I see that you have the obligatory audience section in your backyard like most of us chicken folk. Don't you just love to sit out and watch them into the twilight hours during the summer? My idea of heaven.

well, if I get some roosters in the bunch, I'll have to let you know. They are blue/black/splash ameraucanas.

This is what the sale said: "6 Blue, Black and Splash Ameraucana hatching eggs. These are exibition quality birds that have been shown at birds shows and have done well . They are extremely good layers and gentle . They make a wonderful free range bird with their blue, black and splash color and gentle ways. Thank you for looking. We are NPIP 43-551. These are standard ameraucana's. We do combine shipping. This strain of birds came from Paul Smith. The rooster in the picture is the daddy to parents on the farm. I have his son on blues, blacks and splash hens. We have had several people happy with our eggs and happy with the chicks as well.

p.m. me in August. It looks like our favorite fishing/camping spot on the Skokomish river is gonna get closed down--it's turned into Woodstock/party central the last two years. Too bad since we've been taking a week or two there the last seven years, but we'll figure something out. Anyhow Dh is a fish slayer and the rest of us do pretty well too.

Love teaching kids! Our nine year old got his first, hooked it himself, played and landed it salmon this summer. It was great DD had a 37 hook up day last year.

Hey fellow Washingtonians! I posted this in the WTB thread, but figured a cross-post wouldn't hurt.

Is there anyone in the Seattle area who would be willing to sell me some fertile hatching eggs to stick under my newly broody hen? I'd LOVE Delawares, Sussex, New Hampshire Reds, but ultimately not picky about breed and crosses are fine too. Happy to pay market rates and drive to wherever (Enumclaw, Monroe, whatever).

Thanks!

I'm way down in Mossyrock (3 hours from Seattle) and I've got a mixed flock, but my eggs have proven to be quite fertile. My roos are an EE (black and white) and a buff wyandotte. My girls are EE, black and red sexlinks, RIR, barred rock, siver and gold laced wyandottes and an australorp. I have an orpington but she's currently brooding

So, what is a good age to start using the fertile eggs for hatching. Mine are still laying in the small to medium egg size range. But the last couple of post made me think that I might be able to give, sell or trade some hatching eggs for something. I have 2 BA hens and a BA roo. Also assorted other hens. Anybody have any idea if age makes a huge difference in the fertility?

Ooh, that's so tempting, and thank you! Alas, three hours each way is a wee bit more than I can undertake these days. Are you using your orpington to hatch our your eggs? I bet you'll end up with some really pretty chickiepoos.

yes

She's been broody for the past month now. I hatched one chick on Monday (the other one didn't make it due to my own error. I thought it was dead and cracked it open, killing it. I'm a newbie to this). Mom tried to peck it and kill it so I took the chick away and into the brooder in the house. She's sooooo cute. EE parents

Then, the orpington was still broody on Tuesday so put a variety of eggs under her. She's still brooding and the eggs are all candling well, veining and such. I even saw a heartbeat in one of them this morning. I posted pics of the chick and hatching a few pages back in this thread
