If it would just stop raining, it's a beautiful 50 degrees out. I keep trying to get stuff done outside but I keep getting drenched.

Today the little peepers left my bathroom and I set up a heat lamp in the duck house for them. I figured they weren't getting enough exercise, even with me letting them swim a few times a day. With their wings just beginning to develop I want their muscles to develop also to hold them up properly. They look so little in the duck house. I need to fix the new electric netting but the rain is just pouring... when is it suppose to let up, anyone know?

Sorry to hear about your loss. I know that pit in the stomach feeling, I had it when I lost my leghorn. I had a dozen of then when I thought I was losing my dog.

That tenth Faverolle you counted, shes mine. she just came over to visit your nine. You can return her to me when you come to the party

Eagle2026 very generously GAVE me some barnevelder eggs and black marans eggs and they are incubating happily under my broody! Or should I say that my broody is very happily incubating them? THe funny thing is that I started this grand chicken adventure with barnevelder hatching eggs, of which only one hatched. So it all comes full circle doesnt it? Am candling for the first time tonight ... or at least I will if it stops raining for a moment ....

Yes I moved mine out to the shed yesterday as well. slightly smaller digs than the tote, but I'm somewhat limited on the size due to the other animals occupying the shed. I let them out in the yard yesterday while we did yard work. They scared the big ducks to death, intrigued my turkey hen, and chased the chickens. It was a good day.

Plus, my kitchen smells MUCH better.

Don't set those cracked eggs. They'll in all probability get bacteria inside them and the hens will likely break them before long anyways.

Just so you know, what you experienced with those shipped eggs isn't the norm. At least it's not for me. Either they weren't packed well or the PO did everything they could to destroy them. My guess is that it's the former.

God Bless,

Of course it does. But I know you were looking forward to it.

Just keep your mind open to the possibilities. The right thing will come along.

Thank you. I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers that the three remaining ones are viable... and that I get two (or 3) girls!

I don't need any more than that anyway since I plan on getting some other breeds this year also, but it's still a bummer.

This is what I wrote to the seller:

Hoping these eggs will hatch. 3 were broken, 2 cracked, 3 intact. The air cells are floating in all of them. They looked to be well packed, though. I'm guessing someone at the post office doesn't like chickens or eggs. Do you think they'll hatch despite the detatched air cells? I will, of course, try anyway.

I wonder if maybe the shredded paper isn't as good as those packing peanuts. At my kids' school, they have an "egg drop festival" each spring. The kids have to wrap an egg in a box and cushion it. Then the box is dropped from the roof. The ones with paper never make it. It seems like it would work well, and probably does when they're not tortured by the post office, but crazy as it sounds, popped popcorn has worked really well.

Anyway, just thought you'd want to know how they arrived. I'll see how they do!

Thanks,
Jennifer

Does that sound OK? I'm probably being too nice. I don't know. It does look well packed and they have nearly 100% positive ratings... but the shredded paper just didn't do it for them... *sigh*

It was nice to see my son and dil overnight last night. They did indeed bring my African Pygmy Mice. They are so cute. I have 1 male juvenile, his female litter mate and another possibly unrelated female. The later appears to be pregnant. I can't wait to see those minute-sized babies running around in there home.
Shannon is so thoughtful. She got everything that I will need, including toys, feed and bedding for quite some time. She also brought a 2nd aquariam to make cleaning go easier. I can't wait to settle in and watch mice TV. They don't seem to be too shy. They were up running in their wheel a lot last night.

So, anyway. I am checking with the pet store for details of what my options are for the babies. If there is anybody out there that wants to raise them, I will have extras very soon. PM me.

SHHHHH Yes Ron we is still gonna see what cool kinda birds we can RUSTLE. I have recently gained some interest in some very nice looking BLACK DUCKS. But those would involve a ride on a big boat to a small island.

There is a post on BYC about chainsaws. For showing these 2 pics and the story about the pics I have been told that I "won". I am supposed to get 6 special dark eggs for hatching.

Thus my plea for a bator. Maybe I need to just rustle DN's small egg fridge and make a bator out of it.

Here are the pics that won me the eggs, and much as I hate to say it yes that is me with the big saw.

I don't know Ron...... How old are you? Hate to commit if you are too old, or too young.
I do know that you seem to have just the right amount of weird and crazy to be family or friend to me.
And you do love chickens. That is more than my actual son...... Well he says he loves chicken "fried".

Why do you ask, do you want some A P Mice? I would be happy to let some out around your place sometime. They are good breeders I am told. Eventually they would make it into the house and you could have some of them for pets too.
