Well, I've got two peeps so far from my eggs (6 total).

The one from this morning was attacked by another hen who was trying to sneak her own egg into the nest while momma was off. Luckily, I was there and saw her doing it. She must have heard the peeping and started pecking at the egg. It was all broken and I could see the chick inside. It's still alive, 5 hours later, but still needs to absorb the rest of the yolk sac. I have it in the brooder, mostly out of the egg, but some under it where the yolk is resting. I have a warm wet washcloth around it so it doesn't all dry out. Hope it makes it!

Just been an hour or so since I went out and checked to find a 2nd peeper. No pip yet, though. Momma is sitting tight on the nest now, though. I think the other hen scared her into not leaving anymore... hopefully. I know, I should have separated the broody from the rest of the flock. Next time, I will for sure!

Just waiting, sitting on my hands till the rest hatch!

Last night I met Suburbabchickchick's BF very nice guy. He came to meet me and pick up the chicks. Now for the slightly off color chuckle.

When I mentioned at work that I had a couple of chicks at my house. Some smartalec said: "How much did you pay them?"

I have no idea what any of them are, I'm thinking likely mixes across the board. She just let all the guys and gals breed on her place, but that Campine rooster was absolutely gorgeous!

I'm fairly sure one of the pullets is a Rhodie, based on how deep and high her little proto-comb is. The gal up front has a silverish spot on the top of her head and a few slashes of silver on her wings. Hard to say, though. I will positively post weekly pics.

Sorry about that Kim. I really wasn't trying to start anything. I just wanted some clarification and something I could help do. Guess I worded things wrong. Ah well. I really hope he still comes to the party. Even if he doesn't want to meet me, there are plenty others of you who haven't managed to put your foot in your mouth with him that I am sure he would enjoy meeting. I am still coming, unless somebody PM's me and asks me to stay home.

I'm going to tear off my roof tomorrow, it's leaking.

My dog' "Popeye" has this HUGE growth in his right shoulder. It's the size of a over sized soft ball. I took pics and will put them up later I don't have time right now.
Downstairs my wood stove cracked so I have that all torn apart and no heat in the house.
Last but not leased,
I haven't worked in over six months!
All in all my spirits are high, I'm hatching chicks. I have one that is going to be here in the morning from California.
I also am giving away some BCM roos, if anyone wants a couple. There about 3 months now.

Sorry to be so long winded, just thought that I'd let people know you could be in my shoes...........so keep your chin up it's not that bad!

I so understand about the out of work been there for the past 3 years.

AND just to set the recording straight YES I WILL BE at the party. I have commited to teach Ronnie Roooo the finer parts of Chicken Rustling. I may be able to take reservations to teach 1 or 2 others IF THEY TALK REAL NICE TO ME.
