Morning Cindy!

Thank you so much for calling me last night!

Last night my 12 year old put some flowers and a card on the neighbor's windshield. I've spent most of the morning wondering what it was like for her to start heading to work and seeing those flowers and the card. Did it start her day out on a good note? I'm thinking so. It makes me smile just thinking about it. She can't have a clue who did it since we never do more than wave and sometimes I've given her stuff from the garden. We don't even know each others names. So little guy and I talked about what it would be like if someone did that for us. He left for school in a giving mood... I hope he keeps it.

Maybe this is something we can post in the giving thread... would you cut and paste what you're going through there, and I'll post under it? I imagine that the hating/giving dichotomy is something that many people will experience during this 29 days.

Hi nomad...,
This thread has a tendency to be a little disjointed at times.

Lots of topics and it moves fast. Need to think like a chicken to keep up. (I think like a chicken alot)

Sounds like you had a ride getting to a few hens, sorry you lost a couple on the way.And sorry about Scooby Doo. I believe you can get most chicken meds at the feedstore. Sometimes you need to look in other animal sections. They may be labeled for other farm animals like pigs and/or goats etc.. And I'm sure there are chicken vets in Seattle, but I don't know who. There is an Avian vet on Sunset Blvd in Renton that will treat chickens. I have never been, but called last summer when I thought I might have one with bumblefoot. I believe that if you are sure that your chickens are sick, doing anything is better than nothing. Isolate, keep calm quiet and warm and give them whatever you have. probiotics, Vitamins & Electrolights, antibiotics etc. There are lots of posts about: Lethargic hen, Quiet Hen, Hen has cold, Hen looks sick. A lot of times there are no great answers-just too vague.

Also don't be afraid to bump your thread in the emergency forum. Seems like BYC has been most active lately in the early evening, before the east coast people start going to bed. I'm usually on at some point in the evenings, so send me a PM and I'll keep an eye on the post. I'm good a disguised bumps.

Hey Rustler,

Congrats on the incubator. I think you'll need it. Sounds like your rustling days are over, we'll hear you coming from miles away.

( Maybe we should evacuate before you arrive

Seriously, take care. Don't want you to get hurt badly. My dad went to High School in Sumner in the 50s and knew another kid with tetanus. Dad said he had to get several shots a day. He was in so much pain that he got up in the dark and ran several miles in the dark to the drs office to get the shot. Not quite sure about the veracity of my dad's stories.

lol, cindy, I had a long post written out and somehow lost it... I'm afraid the one I posted in the other thread isn't up to the task. I'm gonna go let geese and ducks and out and take a nap...

thinking of you cindy!

Weave,

Sorry about your chicken problems. I had a couple ideas about what you could give to Hoquiam's town officials, but decided they weren't quite in the spirit of giving.

I tried to give myself an 'tude adjustment last night. Fell asleep, woke up at midnight. Oh well if at first you don't succeed try try again.

We have the same behavior mod strategy at our house.

My Ameraucana (they're the ones with green "L"eggs? and eggs?) is always my last to start laying and we always miss having her eggs in the mix.

AND I love the name Verde - wish I'd thought of it.

Congrats on the green egg! She is a beauty. Very interesting patterening.

Russ- I have thought about those gifts for the council also.

One thought process goes like this.... "What should I do with the mice that I catch in the live trap that my mom got along with the snapamajigs. It catches 4. With luck 3 female and one male. I think gestation in mice is about the same as hatching in chickens. So just before I leave for the party I could have 3 litters. Wonder which councilman hates mice and/or chickens most. Hmmmmmm"

Or this one: "There is a tree filled hillside just over that councilman's house. And a road on top of that hilltop. I wonder how many people will have easter chicks that turn out to be Roos. I wonder how hard it would be for the chickens to make their way down that hillside. I wonder how many Cockerels I can fit into the backseat and trunk of a car. I wonder what bail is for illegal release of poutry in the city limits. Hmmmmmmmm"

Well, you get the idea. I believe that karma wins out in these situations. So I don't think I need to do anything really. Just try to go on living my life and try to figure out something that can help to keep me as active as I have been because of Pinky being in my life. Frustrating to finally find an activity that seem to actually help lessen the fainting rather than causing it. I am just frustrated with the lack of understanding on some people's parts.

Ronny Roo - I wish you would join us in farmville. Some of us are having a great time there. Your daughter is really a joy. You done very good there! Oh and if you don't mind, tell her I said:

Today? Well, I think in the middle of the kitchen floor with my bags of groceries after I shop......

Re: White egg layers.
I am going to give this one to ya my friend. I can't argue with success. And, well, I guess you can pick up a few bottles of food dye and liven up that egg basket a bit if you want.

Mine have been 11/12 and 10/12 the last coupla days.
