AND THAT IS EGGSACTLY WHY I told DW we couldn't go to PQHF today. I saw on thier sign last week that they were gettin chicks today. We already have nearly 60 birds on the ground and there is talk of hatching more.

At least they are still paying thier way. So far !!!

Well, I saw the sign also and figured I'd take a look cause I like looking at the little fuzzy butts even if I don't get them. I didn't expect to see polish! Usually, you go to the store and see barred rocks, sex links, EE, RIR, etc... I just couldn't pass them up!

I'm hoping to go (and come home with a blue Silkie roo? :) April 17th ?? (We're dropping and picking up people at the airport that day so I'm hoping to coordinate the 'picking up' at SeaTac on the way home and I'll let someone else do the 'drop off' earlier in the day.)

Had a great day at the auction with my kiddo. No runner ducks again.

Is it just me or is it always this hard to find local runner ducklings?

Did everyone order theirs from the internet?

I prefer to touch and see what I'm purchasing so maybe it's not meant to be.....'

I am not totally giving up but guess that I'm starting to get discouraged.

OK I just can't resist. Some of ya may remember when I got this little shed on CL and decided to use it for my Banties.
Remember this ugly thing ???

Well check it out now. Cost $15.00 for the flowers on the front porch !!! Now I just need the hanging flowers that will go on each corner of the porch and the solar porch light.

I am considering doing a neighborhood project and raising chicks. We'd get some eggs and an incubator and raise them at my home until they are ready to be taken to the neighbors homes.

Does anyone have an incubator that they would be willing to let me borrow or possibly buy off of them? I'm thinking we'd only be hatching maybe 10-20 eggs, seeing as we'd probably only get a small hatch percentage.

The reason i'm posting on here is because I don't want to travel to far to get it, we're in the Everett/Mill Creek area.

Thanks in advance!

I experienced the same thing a few years ago. So I ended up ordering Runner eggs from McMurray Hatchery to put under a broody Buff Orpington hen. Well only one hatched and it wasn't a Runner (Runner cross maybe). So I talked with someone at the Monroe fair who had show Runners a few years ago (but he's now doing bantam ducks) and he suggested that I contact Holderread's in Oregon. I decided that it was worth going to Corvallis to pick up a breeding pair, given that there must be others in Washington looking for Runner ducklings. I'll be hatching some Blues soon(well actually not for another three weeks), from Holderread stock - so let me know then if you are still looking. I also have eggs, if you have a broody hen, though currently only from my splash? duck and dark blue drake (see below). 'Rainplace' has Blacks - though I think she's just moved her flock and maybe isn't hatching any for awhile. Not sure who in Washington has the characteristic fawn and white variety, if anyone.

Below are two of my females (a Saxony and Blue or Splash?) and the 'blue' drake who is most likely the 'dad'. I also had a Saxony Runner drake that I lost to an eagle last week. He was quite handsome, but seemed a bit fragile and I think he might have been sterile as none of the eggs from his mate last summer were fertile.

The 'Moms' are the Saxony from the top pic, the speckled blue from the top and bottom, and a couple of eggs could be from my little blue Runner duck (not from Holderread's and so not quite so bottle shaped). I candled the eggs today and so far two ducks are sitting on 16 eggs that still appear viable.
