well i applied for an egg dealer/handlers license last night

called the Department of Ag. to find out what i have to do for inspections..... and they told me i do not have to be inspected to get a license.

i would have to buy egg seals and renew the license every year.

and someday in the future they would inspect me.

she is mailing me an egg information packet.

she said i do not have to grade my eggs or weigh them.

Yay!!!!!!

so if you want to sell your eggs at the farmers market, its as easy as applying online.

and keep the eggs cold when at the market. but don't have them on ice or let them come in contact with water....

hopefully my egg washing technique is adaquate. i use the egg washer (5 gal bucket) with air bubble and air compressor with special soap (which smells and looks like granul dishwasher soap)

they are going to send me an information packet.

i do not think one needs a commercial kitchen.

i know that if we wanted to make jams, or food from our fruit we would need a commercial kitchen....

my mom once tried to get a special rule where home kitchens could be certified for commercial use... it didn't have enough support at the time...

but to make cider it would have to be pasturized or the new thing is ultra violet. but yeah once i know more i will let you guys know...

i know that we have to buy egg seals to put on the cartons. but we can cross out the word "graded" and sell them as is "farm fresh"

and here i was worried it would be as much of a hassle as they make it sound on the doa site... but that is for 3,000 birds or more...

if you already have an established business you get the egg handler/dealer as an endorsement add on.

http://www.dol.wa.gov/business/

this is where you apply.

if you don't have a master business license then apply and go through and add it on.

http://www.dol.wa.gov/business/specialtylicenses.html is a more direct link

read the info on this link first
more direct: http://www.dol.wa.gov/business/eggdealer.html

to
apply click this link below.
most direct link to apply for license: https://fortress.wa.gov/dol/mls/

all
this applies for ppl in Washington State.

there should be a separate thread on getting egg dealer/handler licenses... something similar to the sites L.O.R.E thread....

Thanks for the welcome I've been on here a couple of months now and I read this thread every day I just don't post all the time. Are you sure it was my post? After reading on here and seeing how often those statements are made pretty much every day I will always call a store AM and AR an EE. Nobody ever lets it get by them

Maybe it wasn't your post. I get a little overwhelmed by the amount of posts on here, so I may have gotten it wrong. Yeah, I guess when you pay $25 or more for a chicken to make sure it's pure bred and someone gets one for a few bucks at the feed store and calls it the same thing, you get a little sensetive. I have one, and I don't get uptight, because it was a choice to spend that kind of dough on a bird. And now I would get an EE in a heartbeat! But people get "yelled" at for calling them the wrong thing on this website. Pretty funny!

On another note, for those NOT on my FB list. Or, if you are and I missed you, sorry about that

DH and I are childless the month of June, and we'd like to have a pig roast and bonfire the weekend of June 12 at our home. We'll have the bonfire regardless, but we need enough interest to justify buying a pig. June 12 is the day of my last physics final, the start of my summer break from school, and the day before my birthday, so plenty of reason to drink and celebrate and have a good time. Our kids won't be there (obviously), but anyone else is welcome to bring theirs as long as you don't mind mildly to moderately intoxicated adults around. We have beds for them to crash in, and we also have plenty of room for tents as well if someone comes and doesn't want to drive home.. or if you're into that whole tenting thing.

PM me if you're interested.
