So all this talk of the weather has got me wondering if while the sun is shining I should go out and try to get the lawn mowed, and the meat birds pen cleaned out.

This doesn't sound like fun. It sounds like I am going to be knee deep in poop all day.

I'm in Poulsbo, and very new to the wonderful world of chickens. I've got four 2 week old GLW pullets, it's hoped, making a mess of my sewing studio. I should be getting some 2-3day old Jersey Giants later this week, or, is it next, I need to call the nice woman at Cenex. Illia, my folks used to live in Beaver, and the Mora campground and Rialto beach are some of my favorite places... It's pretty windy here too.

Hi everyone. I'm in Anacortes (on Fidalgo Island) and I just spent the entire morning in this horrific wind trying to paint the new run so I can get some wire up tomorrow. The wind was actually blowing the paint right off my brush!

I got it done, but it was a real challenge. On the bright side, the paint was dry almost as fast as I put it on, so I might even get some wire up later this afternoon. And, mud! I don't dare let the girls out there until I get some sand down. Poor dears are getting coop fever waiting for me to get their run finished. I see from the posts that there's others out there battling the elements. Take heart, the wind is supposed to die down in a few hours. Enough of this

, back to work.

Helen It good of you to join us here. I am certain that we can help you increase the size of your flock. We are all fairly good at being chicken enablers on this thread. I am praying that there isn't a AA group for Chicken-olics. I don't think that anyone here would join such group.


OK okay it is a little breezy in the Claw today. None of the roofs are coming off yet, so it hardly counts as more than a stiff breeze.


MotherJean that is a a rather stiff wind. Your' living in Anacortes reminded me of the days when my dad would take us sailing from the west side of Fidalgo Island It's days like this that my father would decide to go for a nice little sail around the islands. He scared us a few times, but we only had to call the Coast Guard once if I remember right.

I think I would be OK with the wind if it was a warm wind. This cold is for the Polar Bears. I was going to say for birds, and then I realized I can't say that, or how else can I explain why I have chickens living in the Family room. Polar Bears like it cold though. This is why I can't have a Polar bear, because they need it to be cold and the cold makes everything on my body hurt more. I want a new body, that doesn't hurt, is a size 4, with a shorter torso and longer legs. (and maybe an extra pair of hands. I know that is would look really funny but I am really sure it would be very handy at times.) I figure that as long as I am wishing I should get the best out of the deal. (would a extra pair of eyes in the back of my head be asking to much?)

I think that this is why the boys let me drive them around. It because of the adventure, and of course the chickens.


I am getting really good at not shovel poop.

We had a very freaky lightening bolt hit our backyard this morning. I was in the basement, feeding the birds in the brooder, when CRACK!!! The whole backyard lit up! All the birds literally jumped in the air! Scared me to death!!! And my poor doggies, two of them were outside! There were no dark clouds, had not seen any lightening or heard any thunder, and it was not even raining!!! Talk about bizarre!!!

Then I drove into Woodinville for some errands and witnessed tons of hail, and I swear it was sleeting on my way home!!!

No baby ducklings yet!!!!

This weather is CRAZY! Went out to feed the darlings this morning and the roof to the coop had blown off! Spent an hour trying to fix it crying and frustrated because my coop is so tall and I have to use a ladder and slip in the mud and sticker bushes trying to get the darn thing back on by myself. Finally BF went down there and temporarily stapled visqueen to the top but I need a better solution ughhhhhhhhh! I think I have a love hate relationship with Washington....lol

Oh and the poult I had nursed back to life and was doing so good passed away this morning...poor guy was soaked!

There has been some sun here today, but now it is getting really windy! What do you all think should I put my little ones in? I put the 4 weeks olds back in their coop to warm up , but what about my 7 week olds that have most of their feathers? Should I round them up and put them away or let them stay out if they want? I left their coop open so they can go in if they want to.
