Ha ! My DH Gary said the same thing, and I do not have 150 !!!!!
and after leaving our remodeled house inNor Cal, and now we are in a lawn mower barn.....a 3-room chicken house sounds mighty good to me !!!!!

Well Chickielady you have officially corrupted me. After I got your post I started worrying so I went on craigslist and just came home with a little giant incubator with egg turners. I will blame it all on you!

I have officially become obsessed with my chickens
th.gif
Now for the wait game. The 21st day for the first egg is today. Just waiting to see what happens. As for the incubator I have no idea what I am doing so if you k now please let me know. Also sorry for being stupid but what does it mean when everyone says they are in lock down. The incubator is a year old so fairly new. I only paid 40.00 for it so I am happy, thats just one night not going out to eat. So 12 eggs to start today, I will let everyone know as they come.

Oh by the way that puppy is really cute, I hope it works out for you, please let us know!!

isn't it so much fun?

Eggs are turned every day until usually the 18th day, some people stop turning earlier,,,and at that time you stop turning your eggs.
I usually candled at that day 16...ONLY, do not candle all the time, it only threatens the lives of your babies... at this time you do not turn any more, and I remove the eggs from the turner, put in a egg carton and cover them/.. usually I cover them with a wet paper towel that has hot water on it./candle, and if clear or weird I toss them, and if dark and obviously alive with an embryo darkening the entire egg,,,they go back in the bator on the floor on newspaper, no more egg turner, understand ?
And you do not ever touch or open the incubator from that point on, as well as humidity is raised and essential for the chicks to hatch and not stick to the shell, nor the membrames be so hard that the chicks cannot get out due to too little humidity also called 'shrink wrapping' and so everytime you open the incubator, you let essential humidity OUT, and can shrink-wrap the chicks to die in their eggs.
Do not open the bator and keep the temp level and humidity at 50% no more than 60% during lockdown.
and do not hesitate to ask questions !!! You are not stupid !!! Geeze !
and everyone here can offer input for her !

If I can get a roo and hen transported from Michigan, why can't Idaho figure out a way to ship puppy to you - if you are willing to pay? I wish I could help...I am probably a good halfway point for you. Gosh....I wish there was someway for me to get there...but I am sorry, there is just nothing I can do. I will keep my ears open and if anyone is heading to Spokane, maybe I could get them to go a bit further to Idaho. Hmmmmm, maybe contact Wenatchee Humane Society...I wonder if they could help? There has to be a way. Anyone live near Chickielady that may be able to help care for critters for a day?

TOTALLY wanna see it! When my family moved to EW in the early 70's.. we lived on 10 acres and stayed our first winter in what was later turned into the CHICKEN COOP! hahahah...

it had dirt floors and everything.. my bedroom was the only part that had wood--fancy plywood flooring.. I remember my mom building a fire under the stock tank to keep the water melted for the cows too.

I will handle it.
And here is some pics of the homestedt today I just went out and took these photos

cool for you jefner !!! see how wonderful it is to have something that is yours, that you built !
Now this old woman is going to lock up and go to bed, and I will drive over and get this pup myself, no problem.
Maybe that my daughter will come watch the place here whilst I am gone~~if not, the birds can stay locked up for 1 day.

You are SO right! My DH and DD and I were in the car with our 2 dogs. The Weiner dog (We call her Clover the Destroyer) was digging up the floor, whining and running all over the car! DH laughed and told her to knock it off, there aren't any rats in the car!! I went into the bank, family waited in the car. On my way out of the bank I saw my husband running around the outside of our Durango, chasing away a mouse! Apparently it was in the engine or somewhere, and Clover KNEW it. Dang dog smells through metal. And WILL NOT STOP once she locks on to a potential target.

$35,000 for a septic system!?!?!? Criminy sake....what is it gold lined?
ep.gif
ARe you going to build on the property? Sorry it is the Realtor in me coming out, just curious. Find this stuff interesting, but here in Okanogan County we roughly estimate a septic system at $10,000, you must be on water or near water or something? Again just curiosity (I know, it killed the cat.....but satisfaction brought it back.

There is a huge perc system attached to our tank, and a pump that, when poo reaches a certain level, is pumped up into a set of pipes with baffle-like structures in them, and this structure of perc system pipes is about 30 feet by 50 feet big, a total of something like 8 pipes.
We are not too far away from water, but this is Pacific County's adopted new septic systems.
There is even an alarm, so if the poo level gets too high and the pump fails, then the alarm sounds which means you have to get a new pump put in.
The entire system requires you consult with several state and county approved engineering firms that come out, and a seperate equipment operator that digs the perc test, after that, the engineering firm you choose that has been county approved and state trained, will design a septic system for you, according to the house plans you submit, say in this case a 4 bedroom 2 bath home.
Well, the plans fell thru, and the home was never built, but the septic system did get built and tested, and approved to operate (this has to be tested every 2 years by the county public health division to make sure it is working properly) and so, from start to finish, this sytem is supposed to cost about $35K
I will look it up and post the link for you to see...
and yes, in Okanogan you are a little more laid back on such issues.
Some septic systems are way more than this !
