Get a little sponge., like half a sponge, and keep it barely damp, like add about 1/8 a cup of water to it dayly.
Our humity is high enough in this state latey, other wise, go to walmart and get a hygrometer /temp gauge like Jesse's.

CAN"T WAIT!!!!!

I'll just live vicariously through the two of you since my husband will lock me in the coop if I do anything like that right now! However, if my rooster (Zeus) decided to go the natural route and any of my girls go broody who am I to mess with nature, right?
big_smile.png

HAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!! Well.... I guess if it happens naturally, there really isn't anything we can do about that and no need for an incubator and the amount of stress that goes with all of that either!! But if you have a hen that goes broody you better let me know so I can bring my eggs over!!!! Lets hang out this week! Sorry I missed talking with you more today but the In-laws were here and I had to go but I sure missed you my good friend!!

Spring Creek--was actually a 'commune' back in the day.. lol! There was another one up near Tunk Mt too.. didn't live on it, but played with all the kids there. we all had hossies and rode like hoodlums all over the place... The kids like to go to the barter faire too, but we leave at dusk lol! That's my favorite time of year over there--crisp clear days, kinda warmish but kinda not. I do like to visit my dad too, in the summer, cuz he isn't too far from a river so we spend most of the day on it..

(he lives in the Methow Valley, not to far out of Carlton--which is were I grew up after we moved from the Tonasket area....
I am an EW girl stuck on the west side!

I have two of them and they both read differently so I just went with the one that I calibrated and one other mercury one and it seems to be good now!! I am hoping I am doing this right, we have 35% humidity going on in our air right now so that is what is reading in the bator as well. So I am thinking I don't need to worry about water in there right now unless you think differently, but 35% is where I should be, right? (I am using a still air incubator because I can't get the one with the fan to work right)

102? I thought they were supposed to be at 99.5? Um did I screw up. My eggs have been at that temp for 1 day....

Incubators with fans are to be set at 99.5 for chickens, turkeys and guineas...and incubators with no fans are to be set at 101.5.
Humidity should be at 30% for 18 days and raise to 50% for the remainder except for ducks raise higher, actually that is another chapter.
For the last week of hatching chickens, raise the humidity to 50% but never over 70% ever, the babies will drown !
During the last week and a half of incubation, you may notice that the temp in your bator keeps rising on it's own...and that can happen due to the babies in the eggs starting to put off their own heat...think about it, at first the egg puts off no heat, but now it has a baby inside and the baby makes heat...so like right now on day 15 of turkeys, my bator keeps getting to 101...and I have fan, so I have to turn the temp down several times today....
big_smile.png
That is cuz the eggs have a living baby inside and it has it's own heat.
The best time to candle is on day 15 and only ! Take the egg turner out of the bator... candle the eggs, do this all fast ! Keep the eggs warm and wet with a spray of water or wet paper towel in an egg carton...
Toss 'clears' and return dark eggs to the bator on their sides, dark eggs have a baby inside, usually...and the light cannot pnetrate the babies' body. Candling eggs every day or every week is unnecessary and can only harm the embyro...if you are so bored, find something else to do !!!
I cannot believe how some ppl candle everyday,,,like they need a job or TV set.

be good girls and good luck !!!
I go to pick up a puppy in Moses Lake Tuesday.....I am very excited, OH, and I think I have 3 FRENCH BLUE MARANS roos, anyone interested ? I will keep some, but have some extra~
Zgoatlady~~~

Your story of your Pyranees is so heart touching !
She barked to alert you a goat was in labor ? How awesome !
I believe it !
I wish you could post a picturte of your beautiful guardian girl, and so sad to see you son (baby) moving away...hugs to you !!!

I will be ready for green eggs and blue eggs next week~~

One thing you girls need to understand is that these birds develope as the temperature is, if it is too cool, they develope slow, and injuries or birth defects can occur if bizarre temps occur at, that day.
Look at the chart I sent to Jessie, and pay attention to the fact that everyday a certain part of the chick developes, like eyes, and if you have a flip out on tempperature on "eye day" then you can have babies born with bad eyes, or no eyes.
Jess still have the chart I sent you ?????
If the eggs are incubated at a low temp, hatching is delayed, and babies can be expected to pip on day 22 or later.
High temps can be very harmful to the chicks developement and can speed up hatching at day 18 or so...understand ?
All you girls go look at the chart I sent to Jess.
Good night !
Get a little sponge. add a wee bit of water, keep humidity at 30-40% til day 18..
OK ????
Robin

You are all so funny !!

Humidity at 30-40% should be fine.
Leave 1 air plug out, and later, like day 15 or so, when you candle, open the other plug as well so the eggs get air, the babies will be breathing and need air!
And, like me now, you will at that time have to adjust temps according to the additional air vent and the babies giving off their own heat.
Later girls ~~~~You will do fine.
Just a tiny bit of water on the sponge, do not open the incubator to wet the sponge, get a tube like Jessie did on her ice chest...

Holy Cow, was it a small dog house ?
You have to set them up all seperated fro each other now, each can fight and annoy and /or/ steal chick or hrm eggs of the others.
The awful part is whe one hen kills the others chicks and all the chicks are screaming and running around...yadd yadda yadda~~ Like a Freddy Kruger movie....put each broody in her own crate on her own nest, away from all others.
Good Luck, and how lucky you are to have 3 broodies at one time !!!
