WOW I do not want to miss that many days again! I just read through 25 pages between all yesterday and this morning.
So I have had a sad 2 weeks. First I loose 2 of my best showgirl chicks to drowning then I lost 5 chicks to a ferral cat! I have a sand box in the pen with my chicks for water and I had just cleanded it out and gave them fresh water. I had to run and save my son from my rooster and forgot to put the brick in the water. The next day dead show girl, so I put the brick back in and the next day dead showgirl!
So i dumped the water and just gave them lots of bowls of water, but I have a duck that lives with them who thinks she is a chick and she needed more water. So I barely filled the turtle sand box with water so she could swim. It's been working great!
Then this new cat shows up and starts eating my chicks. First I noticed that one of them wasn't in the house one night, and then I found what was left of her in their own pen behind some tall grass the next morning. Well this momma hen was mad
so I weed wacked all the grass down. That night they were all there, but the next night when I did head count my fave polish was missing. I found him in the same spot as the other. So I set up our live trap the next morning. I caught 2 of my cats that day and the trap didn't get set back up that night... Sunday morning my hubby and I went out to eat didn't set up the trap and
When we got home we went in our hose and did some things then saw that cat in the pen and looking at my bunnies so we ran out. I did a head count and my #1 fave chick was missing as I am telling my hubby which is missing saying it's the boy my baby boy, he was saying don't come over here! He was over where we had found the othe bodies. That
cat had taken my sweet little couple ounce fully featherd starting to crow baby boy Jap bantom! I cried and cried and cried.
I have never ever wanted to kill a cat before but I sure wanted to then. We set the trap up again and we caught him yesterday morning. I took him to a barn that was a ways away and where he could hunt rats and mice and the owner wil put food out to keep that cats around.
Then that night as I am feeding my 12 chicks in another part of the property I realize the 2 of the younger chicks that were in the pen where every one was killed are missing too so that cat must have gotten them first. I have no clue when they dissapeared. They were there when we were having the problems with the water, but I can't remember when I saw them last. I am just about ready to throw in the towel on this chicken thing! I have lost so many to things that yes now I have learned from, but have killed my spirit. blah
Ok thanks for letting me rant guys!
