Would anyone be interested in a White EE Roo? He's aggressive, but beautiful. I'm asking 5 dollars, and for him to live a long and natural life, without being killed for food. Pick up only, in Everett 98208.

lacasitaroja Here are some pics - don't know how helpful they'll be.

One enclosure is next to a large out building here. We put little hooks in the wall of the shed and then hooked deer netting which we ran to the five foot chain link fence. Birds fly into it every now and then, but they never seem to get stuck or hurt. The next is a fenced area further from the house. We put eight foot posts in the center, ran 2 x 4's between the posts and draped deer netting over the top and secured to the four foot wire fences on either side. It allows us to walk in the pen fairly easily and, again, birds occasionally fly into it, but never get stuck.

p.s. - though raccoons could still get in the enclosed pens, I keep everyone locked in their houses after dark until we are up and about the next morning.

an ugly photo, but shows a post, with the bird net around the top of the fence wire.
Measure your run, go to a good hardware or nursery and pick up or order the size net you need, they come in lots of sizes !
When you get the net, and need support such a big wide pen, stretch 50# monofilament over the pen, maybe need a post in the middle to support it all, I have an old clothes line post in this run.
After the monofilament (fish line) attach the bird net on one side and pull it over, attach on the other side with tir wraps, cable ties.
There is no way an eagle can get in unless he dive bombs the net, and even then, he will probably bounce back like a trampoline.
Birds of prey are extremely terrified of wires and nets.
He cannot get in this net.
It is ugly, but it is in the back of the barn, so it really does not show.
Hope it helps.
P.S. I have never seen a bird of prey get stuck in a net like this, they have excellent eyesight, and like you someone just said, he will no doubt land on the roof and look at the net and decide he cannot get in.
This gives the chickens time to run.
Oh, and by the way, took the design from Greg Richardson...we have seen raccons run around this fence every night, on our wildlife camera, but none have climbed the fence !
The sharp spikes on top and down the wooden posts stopped them cold !

Question: We found a dove on the ground. I believe it is a young one, but it seems rather emaciated. We left it outside, in a safe place, with food and water. Should I try forcing some water on it? if so how? I have diabetic needles, should I give it some fluids just under the skin in case it is dehydrated? It does not seem hurt, just very worn out. Any ideas?

I wouldn't think that extra fluids will hurt it. If it is to dehydrated it may not feel the need to drink enough to keep it self alive. I think I would use the syringe without the needle, and force the water down it throat first. Then if that doesn't use the needle to add the fluids. I think that the first option would be the easiest for the dove.

So I think Shaniqua needs a new name! After spending the day in the yard watering the flowers and talking to the ducks I observed him mating several times with Dove!

He didn't even seem to care about the others. Just his lovely Dove! Can 2 ducks hook up and be a monogamous (sp) pair even with so many others around?

Midnight still has no curled tail feather and is not even trying to mount anyone. I am so confused!

Watch for the Northern Lights on Tuesday night after midnight! Especially those of us that live far from the cities! YEAH!!!!!

OMGROFL My white Silkie just met the big white dog. The first thing I hear about this event is a chicken shrieking in the garage. Now I know that the only chicken in the garage is Snowball the white Silkie, and I think that somehow the Yorkies got into the cage with her. But I know that this isn't really possible but clearly something dreadful is happing according to all the shrieking. Snowball is on holiday from the coop, for being broody again. So I come flying around the corner yelling at the dogs to stop now. And there is Snowball out loose in the garage. She has managed to get out of the upper bird cage. I am not sure how she did this there a a bunch of redundant locking systems on this cage. So I scoop up my poor little darling while glaring at the small dogs. When the Big dog comes over to see if Snowball is okay. She starts screaming again. Every time he looks at her she screams alarm. She doesn't get very excited at the small dogs that have a history of molesting chickens, but she was sure that the big dog was going to eat her. She scared the poor little Big Dog. I am surprised that he wasn't crying. So on the way back to the coop so she can spend time with the other girls She caught sight of the Big Dog again, She started to yelling and shrieking again. I was busting up. The other girls were looking at her like she had lost her mind. I am not sure how she has missed the fact that the big dog has been here the whole time. It is as though she didn't have a clue about how big he is.'
