I wouldn't think that extra fluids will hurt it. If it is to dehydrated it may not feel the need to drink enough to keep it self alive. I think I would use the syringe without the needle, and force the water down it throat first. Then if that doesn't use the needle to add the fluids. I think that the first option would be the easiest for the dove.

Some how I got unsubscribed to the link....had to refind it this morning. We tried with the fluids, but the dove must have had an injury. It died this morning. We tried though. Such a pretty little bird.

I so sorry

I have a couple of Blue/Splash marans hens and a Splash rooster, that I would sell if you are interested, they are a year old tho they are laying, just need some room.
There is a lady that may have some Black Cooper Roosters is all right now,

If it doesn't work out for Roxanna ,I would be interested in Blue Marans hens. I love the one I have and would love to have another one or two.

We took all the roos I had collected over the last couple of months to the auction on Saturday. Well today I got the check for them. I was surprised at how much they sold for. I had one Bard Rock mix roo, at least that is what I think he was. He came from a batch of mixed breed eggs that I hatched. He sold for 7 dollars, and then I had 4 Seramas. The Silverlaced and Lavender splash went for 5 each and the cream pair for 3 each. I am surprised I didn't think any of them were big enough to worth anything.

I have two older Maran hens but no rooster. I think there definitely are a couple of Maran people on this thread (with LOVELY chocolaty eggs) so hopefully they will surface.

What I do have here is a nearly impossible eagle problem. I've lost four ducks and two hens this Spring/Summer. We have now significantly netted (as Chicklady suggested) most of our pen areas and haven't lost anybody since (knock on wood). Surprisingly though, I've not lost them free ranging (though I'm still quite nervous when they are out). Everyone I've lost has been in a pen. The eagles will hop down to a low branch and/or then to a roof of a duck house, and then hop down inside the pen. That way they managed to avoid any wiring I had over the pen to discourage them (the wiring worked for about two years and then they realized they could get through it). Once in the pen the eagles apparently can chase the ducks/chickens around on foot until they catch one and then sit there and leisurely pick it clean. It's usually the drakes or a momma duck, because I think they will try to take on the eagle to try to defend the other ducks or ducklings. In most cases the ducks could have found a safe spot in the pen, but they didn't make it for one reason or another.

I've also lost a couple of smaller ducks and bantam chickens to hawks while free-ranging. I have an intense dislike of 'birds of prey' which I used to find quite majestic. One day (just like in a nightmare movie), these huge shadows moved passed the windows. I looked outside and there were FOUR eagles (two adults and two juveniles) circling down into the yard. I grabbed a hammer (like I was actually going to throw it and hit one of them???

) and I flew out the door and started waving my arms and screaming at the eagles while trying to round up all the ducks and chickens. Fortunately no one got eaten that day, but it still makes my heart race when I think of it.

Anyway, I'll try to get pictures of what we've done here -- though not sure how well the netting will show up on the camera. (As people will point out - it's not raccoon proof, but guess I'll have to wait until those little masked buggers prove to be a problem).

FYI:
I have a nice young and very free Cuckoo Maran Roo that has yet to crow, just begging for a new home.
We are going to Olympia soon, maybe we can meet you somewhere ?
It is a hassel being on the island, I lived there for a while...beautiful and loved the big ships at night, and foghorns..but the little errand to town would be an all day thing.
Let me know if anyone wants him...a very handsome and nice boy but is argueing with the other roo (his brother) so he is in solitary confinement until after this weekend then you-know-what will happen.
Will hold him if anyone wants him...

LOrraine~ how is the eagles getting in if the netting is tacked tight all the way around ? If any hawks landed on the roof here they would see net in all directions, they could not walk out onto the net, and if they did, they would stagger on top of the net and only be able to see through to the ground.
Tack it tight, all around the eaves and gates, I have a flap of net that hangs down so nothing can get in.
If there is a problem with the eagles chewing through the net in some way, maybe reinforce with some poultry wire around the edge of roofs and tree limbs ?
Greg Richardson also uses old computer discs, and there are flashy bird scare products at the feed & garden stores that glitter and move.
I intend to make a 'me' scare crow

I have also put the portable boom box radio out in the hen yard and set it on the public radio jazz station and it seems to help keep critters away and the birds seem to like jazz , specially "the Blue Plate Special" which is on in the afternoons and they play blusey-jazz and jazzy-blues !

The Guineas really really love the blues !

So it is probably in really bad taste to say that I have a really good recipe for French Rooster Stew.

Hi Chickielady - The eagles haven't been getting my ducks and chickens since I put the netting up. You're right - they don't go through it (but if they were determined and crazy enough I suppose they could). I lost my ducks and some chickens to eagles before the netting went up. Prior to the netting, I had string and wire strung every four feet before and that seemed to keep them out for a few years until they learned they could hop down in if they found a low enough perch so they weren't worried about hurting their wings. So I gave that up and my husband helped me put the deer netting up everywhere. Determined 'raccoons' could still get in, but we haven't had a raccoon problem so far and I do try to have most of them locked up tight in their houses at night time, so don't worry too much about the raccoons.

Hawks got my bantam ducks and chickens in the open field, so my 'little birds' don't get to free range with the bigger ducks and chickens anymore. There's no way I can cover the whole lot

Your arrangement looks pretty darn safe (heck, it would probably keep me out too

I had French Rooster Noodle and Dumplinga last night with carrots and fresh snow peas from the garden, a bit of turmeric and curry...YUM!!!!!
Tonight I rolled out a buttery pie crust (GF) and we are having Rooster Pot Pie.

I have no problem with doing in that roo, he had developed a bad habit of grabbing the hens by the neck hackle and whirling them in a circle only to throw them down.
It was like WWF....
He did not do this to mate, he was just mean !
After several viscious attacks, he met up with the business end of a pellet gun.
I still have one very nice Cuckoo Marans Roo, free, I do not want to do in as he is very nice.
I hate to think about the upcoming rooster ordeal with the 21 Ameraucana chicks I have...still peeping and just about fully fledged.
We will be eatin good in the neighborhood.
