Michael--what's your price range? There is a house just up the road from me for sale....we get LOTS of snow & we're very close to the ski hill. Not too much rain but this house does have a creek and a pond. LOTS of sunshine--probably more than 300 days of it per year...there's really not much regulation up here as long as you keep to yourself.

My husband is a school teacher here in Okanogan and there is 4-H and FFA here. Omak is pretty desert-like but Pleasant Valley & Methow Valley are more green and higher up (more snow). The Loup Loup Pass (where I live) gets a lot of snow.
Here is the house I was thinking of....

Micheal: I am a John L. Scott Realtor....if you like some help please PM me. That said, here is some information regarding our area:

Okanogan County is the largest County in the state of WA, around 14th in the Nation. We have 4 definite seasons. Beautiful springs, warm summers, cool falls, and cold winters. We have everything from heavily forested land, to desert, to wetlands. Lots of Lakes to fish or boat, lots of trail heads for either hiking or horseback riding. Our snow fall can range from a few inches to multiple feet, depending on the year and elevation. We still have "old timers" (me included) talking about the winter of '96 - Red Feather Farms, remember that one? It was a good one. Skiing (downhill or cross-country), snowmobiling. There are quite a few people who live "off grid" They use solar and wind mostly. When it comes to water tables, you would have to make sure of water rights before blocking off any creek for power use. I know people who reuse gray water and people who have composting toilets. Okanogan County is normally not humid, unless there is a good storm rolling through. Regarding rain fall totals...I would have to do some research to give you exact numbers. Regarding catching rainfall...I am unaware/unsure of this. I have not heard this one. Hope You find this information helpful. Okanogan County is gorgeous.

Okay, the DH just walked in with a life-size "roo" that is a styrofoam form and then a painted red head and comb and fake (bulgy) eyes....but it then has a full feather (real feathers) body with long tail feathers (real tail feathers from a real roo).....It is kind of creepy. Hubby put it in our bedroom. I think I might have nightmares. If I have time, I will get a photo of it tonight. My mother gave it to him. Sheesh.

I'd love to take in one of your hens. I recently had to rehome a rooster (that we were expecting to be a hen) and have a "vacancy" over here in Kirkland. I'm looking for a good egg producer and it looks like you've got quite a few. I have a Delaware and RIR hen that are both about 15 weeks old. Is your EE mellow? If so, I I'll take her if you feel like she'll mix well with the 2 younger hens.

I have to go to Poulsbo this week and can easily swing over and thin your flock by one. Let me know if you think the EE would be a good fit here, or one of the others.

Thanks,
Matt

17 Ducklings and more hatchings to come!

Anyone thinking they'd like to start their own duck flock in Western Washington? We have Khaki Campbells, Rouens and Black Swede mixes.

I will have to post a picture of my most disturbing wooden chicken. I can't even blame anyone else for it.

And I am not about to tell you all what I paid of it.

I got a frizzle from Del's feed store at the end of May this year. I would just keep your eyes open and keep asking around. Watch and or place a wanted ad on craigslist, and here on the forum.
It will be in the index under Buy, Sell, Auction/ wanted.

What kind of Wyandottes do you have ?

I have 1 SLW, 2 BW, 3 GLW, 1 EE, and 1 Buff Orp. That are all the same age. I think that I got them about the first of June. I also have 6 banties, including a frizzle, that are a week or two older than the Wyandottes.
