I am devastated by his death ! It took him in 12 hours !

He died last night and I still cannot deal with it.
DH is doing the pyre.
I have worked with Hospice Patients, and cancer patients and all this surgery and people dying with AIDES and Cancer, I have suctioned during a thousand hours of surgery and sat and held hands while I told people it did not look good...
But the sudden death of this little man is devastating, he was so very special, he could talk, and he was spoiled cuz he was new, and small...but I carried him around and we talked...I will stop here as this is so sa...DH has the fire going so we have to burn the carcass...,and still no word back from the vets

RIP Cuckooroo and please come back to me !

Big bad ass Harley riding Bit..........ME, and this wee roo tears my heart out, it is so quiet here.

So the new vet never called me, so I have printed out the forms and will drive to Puyallup tomorrow with remains.
Thanks Pipsandpeeps for the links, and everyone else for your help.
I did the gruel with my normal stuff but added applesauce this time per Royce: thanks again for all your help.
Goodnight.

(((((Chickielady)))))))

I am so sad for you. I know you bonded with Cuckooroo and how special he was to you.

Please don't feel like you let me or Cuckooroo down. We both know that you did everything you could and more.
You are an excellent Chickie Mommy and I hope this nightmare is over for you soon with no more losses, and that the lab can tell you what is going on.

Thanks to everyone for thoughts and prayers, you are such a wonderful group.
I too just sold a fantastic treadmill for $100...
The chickens that have had it seem better this morning too.
Eating, less sneezing, no huddling and eyes closed...maybe the Duramet is catching up with the "bugs".
This morning the old hens (seperated by wire and in another pen) are sneezing and grumpy.
(See how it has been 2 weeks and they are just now getting it ?
This takes a long time to circulate, maybe even direct bird to bird contact, convincing me again that it is from a wild dead bird we found.)
They are grumbling and obviously not feeling up to their smarty pants spoiled selves...they are probably getting it, but I have every confidence that 1) The news will come and they will be saved and
2) the older hens have a much better developed immunal system than the 4 and 5 month old birds that have died from this.
And, I am done sniveling, the Cuckooroo was a clincher and I am mad now.
Sorry for the sniveling !
We have dental appts this morning, the accesion for Avian diagnostics forms are printed out and waiting, and we carry on, thanks again everyone

You are the best !

I am sooooooo sorry about your roo. Getting the keyboard all wet. I am new here and to chickens (and ducks) and I am a nervous wreck and my girls are only 9 days old and still in the brooder! Constantly hovering over them, it's like having babies again.

Ugh, chickielady I'm rooting for all your babies. I hope they all feel better soon.

for those of you with fair or showing experience. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed today. the birds need to get to the fair. I've segregated them and made sure they are relatively clean. My 4 year old who is so excited to take his ameraucanas is a bit over the top. The ten year old is blase as always.
I'm planning on buying vet transport crates for the ones that don't fit in our two cat carriers. My mom said "that's dumb put them in a cardboard box". I told her the other kids might think we were wierd if we showed up with chickens in cardboard boxes. I don't know.

I did not wash them. It is freezing here and I don't have anywhere great to keep them while they dry. I do not have time to blow dry chickens. I really don't want to try to teach my kid the language he might learn if I am trying to blow dry chickenss

argggh.
The mille fleur d'uccles are looking pretty good except one who's managed to remove most of his foot feathers.
I need advice.
Do I leave the d'uccle home and tell the kid to keep him more carefully next time or wash his muddy defoliated feet and just take him?

Do I listen to my "never been to a chicken show" mom and use boxes or do I get those cardboard cat carrier thingys?

I feel like a little kid again : ) any advice is appreciated.
