Hi folks. I have been down for a while with bad luck. I am trying to get all my breeding stock back up to par. I am looking for a black orpington or eggs, hen or roo. Young is fine. I lost mine in the dog attack a while back. I want to build up my lavendar orps and I had some nice blacks that were here to help it along but now I dont. Let me know price or if you want a trade for eggs or what you might want. Thanks all,
Anna(Eatonville)

Well, I E-Mailed Deb (Madelynnbelle) about her flock of BBS Marans, and no reply,

but she is busy and has 6 kids besides a business she runs...hope they are OK.
DH has put his foot down on my getting her flock and it is probably for the better, and I have a flock from her eggs that will start laying any minute now.
It is sad she has to give them up, I know she loves those birds.
Wonder where they are moving ???

Anyway, tracing links to Javas and think I have found some,

we waite and see...and in the meantime, I better get some work done out here, I have yet to finish my brooder pens, and the RIWs are still in the large dog crate

Incidently, the little 8" tall RIW roo will attack my hand when I add the water and food buckets to their crate...he will not give up either, even as I gently nudge him away he comes right back at my hand.

While it is comical to see now, it may be a real bummer later when he is 3 feet tall !!!

Name him M.O.T., that way if he doesnt get over himself, his name would fit his destination. lol Meat On Table. We were taught to not name animals that were to be eaten, but us "kids" thought of other names. lol

We had a goat name Dinner, 2 roosters one was named Chicken and the other was Noodle.

Growing up we raised RI Reds and Whites... Our big mean old RI White roo's name was Stew, and the red roo was pot... When I was 4 years old Stew decided that I was no longer allowed to collect his girls eggs, and jumped me. Luckily I had on a fur, "yes I said fur," jacket. Its the only thing that saved my back for getting torn up. Anyways, Stew was nicely put down by my adopted Hatian grandmother. Was the kindest way Ive seen it done, but I don't think I could do it personally. Anyways, Stew tasted really good, and Pot took over as the head roo, at least for a while.

I don't remember what happened exactly to our flock. What I do remember is that our birds were HUGE. The RI Red's were nearly black they were so dark, and the whites were huge two.

Ah memories! lol

That may happen, DH thinks "MOT" is so hysterical, he will charge and peck and puff up every time someone/thing enters the brooder pen.
It is funny now, but will not be when he is grown...and he is the only roo hatched with 3 hens from Rhode Island White eggs..very heritage and rare, so like him or nor, he will have to stay and do duty for a little while...see his Daddy:

This is MOT's parents, rare heritage Rhode Island Whites not related to RIRs at all, a whole seperate breed.
And incidently, this bird's ownere swears he is a babydoll, very tame and mellow.

Thats what I am trying to achieve is more self reliance. I have a feeling I will be eating a few cockerals next year. lol At least the ones I cant find places for anyway.

Ok maby they weren't RI Whites then... I think they had a single comb. But I do remember them being huge. We have a picture somewhere of me standing next to the big white roo when I was 4, and he was just as tall as I was then.

Does anyone has the source local for purebred Delaware?

You might want to do a search on the forum to see who is breeding them.

Also, there is quite a lengthy thread going on in the Breeding/Genetics forum on Heritage Breeds. You might find some breeders posting on there also.
