I wish I could "shop at my dump" but its a big hole under the building with truck trailers being filled with garbage so I think they would freak if I climbed down to get stuff.

Rainwolf- I noticed in your signature you have an old Australian Kelpie. We have a 6 yo pup who we think is a Kelpie but not sure. What do you think? I've never met anyone with a Kelpie.

Momma to two pups, 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Dominique, 1 Black Australorpe and soon 2 more!

Our dump is a privately owned deal just outside of town, and watched by the officials, they guys who run the dump are great guys, everyone pulls in and dumps and then leaves and they guys PUSH the stuff into the hole where the truck trailers are, and any appliances, windows, TVs, or metal objects, lawn mowers, etc are pushed aside for recycling purposes...and you can at any given moment see everything...from old fence wire to chaise lounges, refrigerators, cast iron skillets of every size, mowers weed eaters chain saws, you name it.
I got an awesome unscratched antique coffee table one time, in storage now...and several triple pane windows I put in my first coop...So much fun, a dogloo, microwaves, glasses bowls, christmas ornaments, a whole large ice chest of ship's charts of reefs in the caribean area...the list is endless ! Pole lamsp, books, saws, clothes...today we saw a hundred plus square feet of THICK double walled bubble insulation 'board' used for temporary refridgeration...complete with some food still on, easy to hose off, DH did not want it, it was about 36" wide and endless lengths, perfect for coops or garages, it is covered in thick plastic foil...off to work I go...

Gotta dig a ditch around the well and put in drain pipe, and DH is still trying to invent a pump system that stops before the well runs dry without buying a well manager system....

*waves* to all the other Washingtonians! Hello everyone.

I'm new to the BYC forums and live up in the mountains of the Upper Skagit Valley in a tiny town called Rockport. It's way up on Highway 20 in eagle country. It's nice to see so many from the state on here. I've already been in contact with a couple by email and hope to get to know you all. I also made an introductory post in the New Members forum so I'm diving in. I can't wait to get some chocolate egg laying pullets in the spring!

whats the size? 40lbs or so? and long finger/toes?
the face looks kelpie but have to see more of the body to tell for sure.

Mine was billed a dobbie mix at the pound but only grew to 40# and herds like a fiend! My neighbor has a papered kelpie and we can not tell them apart voice wise they also have the same long toes/fingers and same body and size. I later found out that there is someone "breeding" dogs like mine. kelpies but with fold over ears and dobbie type markings. Mine has a white undercoat that would make her very white dog if you shaved her!

I'm a strange dog owner. when it is time for a new dog I go to the kill shelter and adopt the worst behaved dog there on purpose! I then work with them until they are great dogs. but I only get 1 "new" dog every 10 plus years so its kind of a slow little rescue center at my house.

My kelpie was 6 months old (billed as 4) so hyper you could not get her to sit still for even a nanosecond. while working with her at home I found she was perfectly potty trained! big bonus! but 1 day when I went outside for short minute when I came back inside she was on top of the refrigerator! How in the world does a 20# pup get to the top of a full sized frig??? but thats where I kept the cookies

I had to train her not to run on walls... washed a lot of paw prints off the walls... train her not to pick up the phone when it rang, not to go ballistic hyper when a new person said hi to her, not to growl at people walking in/out stores when she was outside (she wanted to play and be petted not mean growling) etc etc!

after about a year she never pulled on her leash, mostly calmed the hyper/behavior and was a awesome dog for the kids and etc to play with.

Hi everyone~

I'm Joe & my partner is Karen- both 61 years young, semi retired, on 6 acres on San Juan Island.
We have MANY rescue animals, (family- everyone has a name & gets loved on daily!)
About 20 goaties, 2 sheep, 2 alpacas, 1 horse, 2 parrots, 3 cats, & 2 old faithful doggies!
We own & operate "Grazin' Goaties"- we rent our goats out to do noxious weed & brush removal!
Currently building apx. 300 sq ft of raised bed garden... 12 yards of dirt to wheelbarrow!
Just got a maternity ward/nursery dun 4 the goats....
Next on the agenda is another chix coop- we had to rehome our chix when we committed to this farmette a year & 1/2 ago.
We want an assorted flock of 8 to 10 henlies & a big handsome boy to watch over them...
We're going to be looking for some Wyandottes,Orps, heavy gals... young but mature.
Let us know what is available on the San Juan Islands!
