I didn't even know we had 'possums until about a week ago, a breeder told me an Opossum bit her dog. Wow. I thought those were limited to the south and what-not.

ME EITHER!!.. Never seen one, but we do not get any animals around here with our dogs.. all stay way away
love that last line!!!!
We close everyone up at night and keep them in when the snow is deep, we have a large area under a roof outside they are corraled in when it snows ;-).. We have never had frostbite on the combs, have had chickens the last 4 years only had a couple weeks though of really cold weather each year and we keep everyone locked in under heat lamps
Yeah--my dumb roos were out in -10 or colder last winter, STANDING in the snow and parading around...LOL I captured them and vaselined their combs but it was too late for a few...so now they all have very odd-looking combs (aka I cannot show them!) One of my light sussex roos also got frost bite but on his feet...
Why doesn't someone knit tiny stocking caps with under the chin ties...like a top and bottom stocking cap as to cover the wattles and the comb ?
I will ask my mother, she knits...anyone else here knit and can make stocking caps for roos and see how it works

I thought about that...if they were anything but bright red would the girls turn their backs to the roos ?
I know there are others that can knit...LaSombra do you knit ?
I think it would be a good idea to try it, especially for those sub-zer areas, I doubt the roo would care.
Be cute to put a poof on top, too...Justbugged, do you knit ?
I do not knit but have all these ideas....
The feed labels you showed in the scan have soybean meal at the top of the list. It is my understandign that almost all soybeaninthe US is genetically modified. I have been buying my feed that is supposed to be soybean free, corn free, and non gmo. Most corn that is available is genetically modified as well. Whole Foods said they cant get non gmo corn. I prefer to not eat GMO food, or feed it to my animals.

I would too if they did not like me... LOL
Good Morning Everyone
My dogs keep them away most times here too. but the young ones either are stupid or brave. If they hang out in the yard I bring out the traps. If the pass through I leave them alone.
i'm irritated. i am subscribed to this thread, but i never get updates. now i am 40 pages behind... i dont have the time to catch back up on that.
does anyone else have issues with the subscription email service?
i love reading about you guys. but not if i find out the slow day of posting turns into 40 pages later.....
i am happy i get to go home today after classes. 4 hour drive. but then i can see boyfriend and my chickens.... its through you guys that i get my chicken fix. being in pullman, i'm having a hard time. it doesn't help that i get sick and cant study.....
