I think all your hail and lightening will come to us in the form of snow.

Thank you, I think this is a two dog and two cat night (to stay warm).

Actually the puppies get put in crates, might leave them out to keep me warm.

Are you a member of the ALA? I always loved the Skiffias, some are truly beautiful fish when courting, and I found their behaviors and social structure enthralling compared to many of the other livebearers. Some of the Skiffias and the Goodieds are already extinct in the wild and are maintained only through Universities and hobbyists. If you want to keep a natural planted tank, do try some of these wild livebearers as, although they often require a species tank, they are very rewarding to raise. The ALA conferences are also a real treat!

I had no idea it was illegal to cart a critter down the road and let it go, my idea was that at least it had a fighting chance, otherwise facing a bullet, which is zero chance.
So, what else are the alternatives in such a case ?
It is a wildcritter and is getting into trouble here in our home/yard so ???
In the city there is probably the animal police to call, out in the county if they would respond at all it would probably only if the animal had bitten someone or had foaming at the mouth going on...and even then they would just come out and get the critter and put it down.
So what are the choices ?
In the county ?
Maybe the best thing is just to not trap the offending banditos and just scare them off better !

Well around my place ...... If they leave my family and critters alone then we can tolerate each other but if they become a problem That is when I use my best medical training. Lead injection and a dirt nap.

I subscribed to the same thinking as CR.

Im not a member ofthe ALA. Iahve species specific tanks. I ahve about 12 tanks or so roughly. I dunno how many exactly. I dont know how many fish I have either lol.

Scott from Patriot Farms was very helpful and professional. Also I found him very knowledgeable and articulate about feed in general. He offers a feed that is an a balance between the cheap crap and the unaffordable certified organics. For those that dont have the money for the high dollar stuff, and dont want to feed their chickens (plant by-products, animal by-products) its a good option at a good price. Id much rather deal with comeone locally than buying from the feed store from a corporate giant.

Its getting cold and the reality of winter is coming.

They are saying that it could snow in the Puget Sound area above 500 feet. It is coming in sooner than they first thought. I am going to have to get all the plants inside somehow tomorrow.

I have an empty 46 galllon tank that I could get going again if I find the right type of fish. Right now The only tank that is up and running is a 75 gallon. I would really love to get a bigger tank, but they get a bit more spendy as the volume increases. I just need to watch craigslist more.

Yep, I was going to just post that it is snowing at my house too. Not hard, but it is snow, has dd excited. Chickens are not so excited, they just want let out of their run this morning.

Why do they have to be skinned if useing for stock? Wouldn't you just strain them out when the stock is finished cooking? I don't think I would ever do it but if I did I would probably just scrub them real good and cut off the nails. Seems the rest would just turn to mush when it's cooked to death.

What I read about using chicken feet was, that you skinned the feet because of what the chickens are walking around in before their feet become available. I thought about the idea just long enough to think that skinning was a rather good idea. There must be a more to it. I tried the quick dip method and when that didn't seem to work well I went for the lets all but throughly cook them method. Nothing I did short of using them as is, made them any easier to skin. So the option seemed to be using them as is, and that thought makes me a little

Yes, its all very gross to me. What I was told was for as long as stock is cooked any 'germ' will be cooked out and simply scrubbing the feet was sufficient but this also comes from someone who also makes stock by putting the whole cow foot and ankle in the stock pot after taking off the hide. She said she scrubs the foot real well before putting it in. After having horses and seeing and smelling how deep the dirt gets imbedded it almost make me puke. I am not eating at her house. She says it makes the best thick most gelatinous stock. It's so thick when it cools she can cut it into cubes and freezes the individual cubes. But it's just ewww to me. I guess it's an individual thing.

Well, DH took a tarp and laid it in the mini van and went to pick up the hav a heart trap and the racoon went nuclear and hissing spiting snarling...he was so calm and cute when I visited him and took his photo.
So DH drove him a few miles away and let him go in a park..I am sure he will be fine.
DH said that the critter was pooping and snarling and grabing through the wire at stuff, poop some more and kept rolling in it and flinging poop and snarling like a cat in a clothes dryer.

DH got out his welding gloves and opened the door and lifeted the cage flap and the coon blasted out like a poo covered rocket.
Then it took half and hour to clean up all the pee and poo...tarp and trap...EEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!

the van smelled like an outhouse, a full outhouse....
Next time he gets CR's medical treatment.
Well, you have all had your laugh of the day, now get ready for the snow !!!

I doubt we get any being at sea level...but some of you might get quite a bit here on the western side, like LaSombra and even CR !!!

Wow! Looks like we missed quite a great deal of torrential weather! I have only lived here for 6 years (from Minneapolis) and haven't once felt a quake, although there have been small ones around. DH is from the Bay Area and remembers the 'big one' in '89 that wrecked the Bay Bridge so the 'big one' here in '01 was nothing for him- although he said a coworker ran out of the downtown building and all the way home 7 miles away. Lol.

Disneyland was okay- the sunshine was great to have. I do LOVE coasters!

We had a miscarriage a month ago

so I'm always trying to find positive things because of it- 'oh, it was probably a boy' (lol) or 'i can drink wine! and eat good cheese' or 'lots of coasters for me'. It wouldn't have been nearly as fun if I couldn't go on any rides.
