Thank you for the reminder. I would have forgot...too worried about chickens. We just went in the coop and it is actually pretty warm. I moved the heat lamp a bit closer to them (they still have plenty of room to get out of the way). We also nailed up two suet bars up. I am going to make my own bird block. Feed store was out today.

Let me know your recipe and how it works out with the flock block !
This is a good thing for the birds when they are in lock down situations, boredummmmmm can take over and pecking or stress can go on...but a block of stuff to peck at can be oh so wonderful to the birdies !!!

YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! That is what I do !!!!! But DH LOVES stuffed (Deviled) eggs...so how do the duck eggs taste compared to free range chicken eggs ???
You do not have 1 chicken do you T ?
And are you still driving the school bus ???
Poor T, every morning with all this snow I wake up and think: Poor T in the shool bus !!!

The duck eggs are AWESOME!!!!! No one has been able to tell the difference!

I do not have any chickens just my cute quackers!

I called into work today and told them I was not coming in. I live about 45 minutes south of Kent and we got hammered lastnight and I couldn't even get out of my driveway! Not worth having to pay $500 deductible and being without my only car for however long it would take to fix it! I made some people mad but oh well! It was my decision to be safer than sorry! Not my fault that the school district waited till it was really bad to decide to let the kids out early and by then people were crashing!!!

This Mama ain't stupid!!!

Dang !!
We just spent $5K on a dry well, remember ?
So we are stuck on our rain barrell system.
Yesterday I put a 55 gallon drum in the babies coop, and filled it, and we are on a 15 gallon a day lockdown.
The washing machibe (out in a shed) is going to be emptied and filled with anti-freeze to prevent cracking the cast iron motor housing....and in the next 2 days I have to develope the old hand dug 12 foot deep well DH dug...and build a shed around it, or we will have zero water, all our water tanks will freeze.

Terrie do your ducks eat the oatmeal or just chickens ?

You are of course asking if her ducks eat the oatmeal or if the chickens eat the oatmeal, right? Not asking if the ducks eat the chickens?

Me too... that's how I read it. Hadda a good laugh too

The school district where I live has said no school tomorrow.

The district where I work... well their heads are stuck up........! They were the only district who had school 2 years ago when it snowed bad and we had a bunch of buses crash! With budget issues being bad you would think that they don't want to pay to fix them all again!!! And I don't know... maybe the safety of it all!!!! Call my crazy!!!

RRRRRRRRR!!!!

Hmm.... the news just announce that Hwy 410 has been closed right by my house!!!! Ah man!

The wind is really picking up. Hoping we don't lose power. Wish I could help you Heather. They just announced the first confirmed fatality of the storm. A traffic accident near the Tacoma Dome. A cargo plane slid off the runway at SeaTac. Everyone stay safe.

This is my first time posting on this thread but with the really cold weather, snow and wind I wanted to see how others were preparing there birds. I read no xtra heat in an Alaska thread, but to be honest my poor birds have never been this cold, lol. My hubby and I put all of the boys and girls in the 2 large houses (12x12 and 10x12) and put a 250 watt bulb in each. They are generally never locked in, but tonight we made an exception. Pretty nasty out there.

My kids are in the Kent district- If it does not vastly improve, they will miss there 1st day of school tomorrow, regardless of Kent deciding to be just 2 hours late. I was terrified driving home tonight.

Oops- Hi, Cowgirlgrace!!! Love your new babies! Crossing my fingers for a good hatch.
