Hi wthchristi,

I'm right next door in east Renton.
You are right to look at your own situation, and plan accordingly. Kent is very different from South Central Alaska.
I provide supplemental heat to keep the coop just above freezing.

I think you will be shocked at how well they do. My parents raise geese and ducks in upstate, NY and basic shelter keeps them in wonderful shape through the winter. The chickens require more shelter and warmth than the waterfowl, by far.

My geese are currently sitting out in the snow despite having two goose huts and two large sheds available. The ducks have some sense, some are in a shed, the others are in a doghouse.

Well the last time I lost two Muscovies (one died, the other's feet froze off so hubby culled her) it wasn't even this cold!

I just got back in from locking all my waterfowl up...I chased the muscovies around and into their shelter and used a hay bale to lock them in...the geese and two of my other muscovies, we carried up and locked in the horse trailer with a bale of hay spread around in there...the other group of Muscovies, I locked in their shelter using a hay bale, as well. DH says he's never seen it this cold here, ever and he's been here since the late 80s!

I told DH that next spring we're building my waterfowl REAL shelters that I can lock them in every night. There is one gander I'm really worried about...he's the runt one...he was shivering really bad....I gave them a tiny bit of (warmed) water to drink and a big bowl of whole corn...it will be hard to sleep tonight.

The temperature in my coop has dropped to 21 degrees...but that's not bad considering it's probably -15 or less outside!

Thank you so much....I am looking forward to making this.

Please PM and tell her, she was awfully nice coming on to give us her recipe...did Terrie post her suet recipe ?
Did I miss it ?
She can get really busy...I will look again tomorrow, hunker down and stay warm !

I will PM her. No Terri has not posted her's yet.

We are doing our best to keep warm, just got back from a Class Theater event my oldest kid was in....Shakespere stuff. Could barely hear the kids...so many of them forgot their lines...so funny.

Yep, saw that one.

We've got a Google Map we keep up that tells when, where, and what scale of earthquakes happen around the world.
