Lol. Well, as the 'cool kids' Seattleites, we end up running the state politically but since we are so close-knit, the rest make up the 'feel' of the state, from lakes and rivers and sounds, and rainforests and pine forests and deserts and mountain and foothills and all the rest... Oh, and there are plenty of misfit rednecks here in Seattle and through the rest of the state

so we're all one of the same- all 'kid' Washingtons.

I am pretty sure that I am one of those "rednecks"...which is fine with me. I Ain'ts gotst no problem wit dat.

I remember the "radiator kids" in our school. You would walk through the doors of the school and their was a big radiator there...the "cool" kids would sit on it and make mean comments to all the little kids coming through.

Danielle: We had -7 at our house when we got up this morning. We are up on the flat above Omak. I bet Heather (Rare Feather) is even colder, she is up in Pleasant Valley. I lock my kids (chicken kids) up every night in their coop and we have a heat lamp to try and raise the temp, even if it is a degree or two. Glad to hear that your roo is doing okay.

We're at -5 right now and I just noticed we have horses in our pasture. Our own...but they are supposed to be in their winter paddocks. So the fence must have shorted out and they've gone through it. So I have one more thing to do before we can get outta town--catch horses & fix fence! ARRGHHH! Oh and there are COWS everywhere! Our stupid neighbor leaves them until they home come on their own. They are all over the highway, busting up our fences and I've already chased them from our haystack and my in-laws' haystack THREE times in the last two days. Poor things have no food or water. The state trooper was out last night with his lights on trying to herd them around the highway (they are black cows, it's VERY dark up here and people are driving too fast for the icy roads anyway)....

Soooooooooooo...has anyone heard a peep from Rare Feathers at all since ???yesterday morning ?????
Holy Moley I hope they did not loose power...
I have not heard from her at all and I am supposed to meet her today ?????
Well as far as the fruit trees, they will all do fine as long as they are dorment when frozen, when frozen while the sap is running, it can swell, expand as ice does, and split the trunks and limbs.
I remember in Idaho, at -20 and -30 degrees the trees in the woods would EXPLODE like dynamite, so would any wet dimensional lumber used say, in the sub floor of a new home.
It explodes and splits the tree/wood right open.
In the spring, bugs get in and sap runs out and the tree can bleed to death.
So far we have stayed at 20 and all is well...power flickered yesterday and had me in fits, but never went out.
Wish we'd hear from Heather~~

Well, I'm happier this morning. It is very lightly snowing, and supposed to snow into tonight then turn into rain (FREEZING RAIN!!! GAAHHH!!!

)

Seriously, inside the town of Forks, 14 miles away, they're already getting freezing rain for some reason.

Anyway, all the water is frozen again (but thankfully not the pipes) so I've been bucketing hot water back and forth to melt the waterers for all our hens, chicks, roosters, polish, and goats and yak. That's a LOT of back and forth. . .

Oh and I finally decided to turn the radiator on in my room to full blast, so the heat will leak out my terribly insulated (practically just plain worthless) door and towards my Tolbunt pen. Their coop and covered porch is right out my door.
