The Monroe show is a lot closer for me, too. I'll be probably come to the spring show.

Too much going o for me this weekend, but I do plan on going to the spring show. I live 15-20 min away so I should be there.

That is The Squat. She's treating you like a rooster. She'll be laying any time now. Maybe the RIR was jealous because the "rooster" paid too much attention to a lower ranking hen.

Stupid stupid mare, I went to take off her blanket and she bolted as I was pulling it off her head! She managed to step on it and shred it! I wouldn't be so mad if it wasn't a $200 blanket!!!

I don't think I will be touching the horses today. Not wise to mess with them when I'm in a bad mood. GAH!!!!! STUPID MARE!!!

I'll stop now...

This is why I don't own horses. They suck up SO much of your money, don't give any back in return (just horserides and lots of stress) they take up a lot of space, they eat a lot, they're hard on land, and they're so often rather A) stupid B) stubborn or careless of people.

Our last horse was a gorgeous PMU Rescue filly, turned to an outstanding mare. She was a warmblood, black, and VERY big. She was extremely athletic and a good jumper, but golly she was thick headed. She fought with the elk (and got serious injuries) bolted in thunderstorms and got her legs tangled in barbed wire, picked on any other horses or teased the boys a lot, and . . . She took a lot of money and we hardly even got a horse ride out of her. There was the first aid supplies for her injuries, the training far off on Roy for a few weeks, the blankets, saddle, halters, LOTS of hay, I could go on. . .

I like cattle and goats so much more because you can still ride cattle, they're still beautiful (the non-beef or non-dairy kind, IMO) and they actually give back in more than one way.

Also, they don't tear up your land and chew up your barn.

my two cents.

I do have to agree with you, they are a massive pain and a LOT of work. But I have a life long love for them, and can't picture my life without them in it, in at least some way.

This is Prada, "the red head" lol She's way to cute, and built perfectly for me. I see working cattle in this little girls future!

Me, I see working cattle while riding cattle.

(though I would not use longhorns, I'm not a fan of their body type OR their wide horns)

Thanks Hallerlake .....

All the girls are a lot quieter since I separated the RIR from the New Hampshire. My Australops seems a bit miffed, however, to have been tossed in the same coop with the RIR. She liked being with the other girls. Now she paces the run whenever she sees me, but when I watch through my window, she's fine. Oh, and now the RIR is squatting too! The fleshy bits on the Australops's face are not as bright red, so I don't think whe will give me an egg any time soon, even though she is the same age.

Anyone have any suggestion on how to straighten some dog-kennel panels? They bent significantly when the tarp cover pooled rain and broke the center support. The panels are welded rectangles, not chain link. Also if anyone has suggestions for a simple, predator resistant roof that can bear a heavy snow load, I'm interested in that too. The kennel is 10' X 10' and 6' tall. I want to turn it into a covered run so my girls have a decent sized place to roam when the weather is lousy. I'm hoping to use clear, corrugated panels as the kennel is in a shaded area.

Well we survived our first chicken show ( barely).
Admission to chicken show FREE. Getting out the door not so cheap. I had to buy 2 OE's from Chickielady and DW had to buy 3 RIR Bantam hens.
BYC members are not easy to spot among a bunch of chicken people. Now lets see who did we meet? OK here are the ones I remember Chickielady (who we already knew), Lasombra, jbear, wa4Hpoultrymomma and cmsdvm. OK so now lets see who did I forget.
