Wanna hear creepy? The airport itself is still in use, and in fact, not only has it been expanded, fenced off, roads closed around it, but we also pay more of our taxes towards it, and what do we see? Nothing but the occasional military fighter jet sitting around in the back. No new buildings, nothing. . .

And they practice over us SOOO many times and so low and obnoxious it drives m insane.

my boyfriend is from moses lake. it apparently has the longest runway in the US. it is a training ground for military and commercial pilots. for many years, till this year, the japanese would train there.

you want to know whats creepy? seeing large military planes, like cargo jets or commercial liners, flying low and SLOW over the city. i swear it looks like it is ready to stall or drop out of the sky, and it is soooo loud.

there is one practice i have seen them do, which my bf had to explain. they do touch and go practice. its a way to practice take of and landing while practicing emergency landing.....

the plane will land, touch the runway at a high speed, and then take off again.

but this runway is so long you cannot see the other end. it starts in moses lake and ends in another little town called Stratford. 5miles +

it is capable of having the space shuttle land if it was ever this far north of the equator and needed to land.

in a town near where i live, Cashmere. has a private municipal airport. right next to the highschool and is surrounded by residental. some people worry, some want the airport closed. but its their fault for building close to it. lake wenatchee also has a municipal, emergency airport too.
sometimes on a nice day some people from the cashmere airport fly up around the valley, one of my class mates from HS, his grandpa taught him to fly when he was little, and now he is at flight school at moses lake, has 10,000 hours under his belt and is so far certified to fly a small commercial plane, like a Q400 with seating of 72 people. (i might have the plane models mixed up, but i do know the passenger capacity he is allowed to fly)

so even though little airports are sometimes useless and tax draining, how else do kids get exposed to the dreams of wanting to fly? already pilots are over worked, like nurses.

You have to make sure you arrange this and pay for the table well ahead of time with the show committee. Just an FYI, although I'm sure you knew you couldn't just show up and start setting up tables.

It was nice to meet some of you. Great show, great people, and I really hope they don't combine Monroe into the Stevenson, WA show again. If you want the shows to be separate, please contact the club and let them know.

Yup. I have 'done' so many art shows...I cannot even count...

It should be easy to get Korfus or others to automatically deduct it from an account and set us a place.
We just need to let her know we will be there in one form or another, from show to show.

This would be great - really hope the coop is in progress by then and that I can make the next show. DH is flat on his back at the moment after knee replacement surgery a week ago, so I'm not sure how long before he's fully mobile again. Speaking of the show, did anyone bid on or win the Private Wine Tasting Party for 25 at Vino Aquino? Terra said she was printing out the gift certificate so it could be offered. I was hoping one of you would be going home with it!

As rumors start to boil I must come in and assure everyone that...

Washington Feather Fanciers has never combined shows with the Pacific Northwest Poultry Association. As long as I have been involved with the club.

Washington Feather Fanicers is also not "planning" on combining or canceling any poultry shows.

Thanks everyone for attending the show, it was great meeting everyone.

The finals that I can remember off the top of my head are as follows.

Champion of Show was a White Aracauna Cock Bird by Steve Waters
Reserve Champion of Show was a Black Cochin Bantam by Joe Mazur

Reserve Champ Large Fowl was a Black Langshan Cock by Tony Albritton

Once I get a full report it will be put into our club newletter.

Join Washington Feather Fanicers to keep up on the shows and the news and happenings with Washington Feather Fanciers.

Thank you! It was all my fault, kind of. There was a lot of talk among exhibitors about the possibility of the Monroe show being cancelled. I am glad to hear this will not be the case.

Oh nuts! Really? Yes, I had several entries and was there Sat. and Sunday until about 1400 or so when I started home.

So help me out, which one were you? What did you bring to the show? Oh, I am soooooo bad with people and names!

God Bless,

I brought silkies and the token goose. I have no idea how to describe myself. Late twenties, talkative, too much caffeine not enough sense.

Ahhh, see. I *did* speak to you, I had the appleyards a couple cages over that I brought hoping to get someone to explain the standard to me. I have the standard, but ti doesn't state how far up the flank the red is supposed to be, the placement of the fawn on the head, etc.

How did your birds do? It's too far and the passes too scary for me...but I'm hoping to be at Monroe next spring--it just depends on who's molting and when....last spring almost everything was nasty until about June!

Hi Heather,

Missed ya at the show. My birds did well but unfortunately there was no competition for my LF WBS Ameraucanas, Buckeyes, Welsummers, Black Cayuga, Swedish Blue, and Pekins. And that's disappointing especially in the case of the Ameraucanas as I'm really very pleased with the results I am seeing from last year's breeding efforts. I know I've turned out the best Ameraucanas that I ever have before.

I thought my White Runners would do better than they did but am guessing they were too small and maybe still to young for the judges. 1st Place went to an old duck that was pretty nice type-wise but was in really poor condition. I did take Best Medium Class Duck with my Swedish Blue. I also think my Black Cayuga would have done pretty well but he got loose as I was loading the birds and he beat his wing tips to a pulp trying to get away as I was trying to catch him. Other than that, a lot of my birds still had a lot of pin feathers and of course that matters. It didn't much matter for the breed because as I mentioned they were all pretty much by themselves but had they been in better condition, I might have done better for the Best of Class.

I hear ya about the molting. I have one Buckeye cockerel that, believe it or not, even now looks like his entire neck is covered with ice sickles. It's nothing but pin feathers!

Anyways, here's wishing you the best for next year and hope to see ya next April in Monroe!

God Bless,

Yes. I wish I could have fit more geese in my car, but since I brought the ducks and had also brought along a standard cochin pullet for Sheryl, I was short on space. He's a Dewlap Toulouse, is about a year and a half old. I find them to be the gentlest geese so far, although any gander can be difficult during breeding season. I prefer them over any other waterfowl.

Jen,.. can we make it any more confusing? I think there was another jen/jenni/jennifer there as well. We might have to start going by last names.

Jen,.. You were running around just as much if not more so. Your call ducks are adorable. Love the color. I wish their standard counterparts (the saxonies) performed as well as the appleyards in my area, as the coloring is just lovely.
