Phil's a nice guy, but I think he's focusing on waterfowl now. Not sure what kind of chickens he still has. He's a wonderful person. It's not the monastery, the only person I've ever seen at the shows is Brother Phil.

Phil is very very nice,.. but I don't know if he makes any WA shows. Super cool guy. if he has this breed he would be a great source.

That is what I was thinking...hope Illia did not get hit by lightening...I have had 2 people I know lately get a strike close to their house and it blew out all their circuitry, in the TV, cable, computer breaker panel...it was expensive too...Insurance companies do not seem to want to pay for it !

Anyone here know of any Ham (or Spiral sliced ham) that can or cannot be smoked and marinated but not have additives, hormones and preservatives like Fletchers' maple sausage links ? My family wants Ham and I am trying to avoid the hormones, preservatives and added stuff.

We also need to see Photos from CR of the coop AND his new chickens !

AND witChristy has new chickens...wanna see the new babies everyone !

I have Silver and Blue Copper Marans eggs in lockdown ...so far looks good...

My parents ordered a fresh ham (?) from Safeway and they have their own recipe that they are doing. I am to understand that there has been nothing done to it...not smoked, preserved, etc. It has to soak in a brine for 3 days...so it cannot be previously cured.

Aren't you glad you do not get lightening too often ?
We have had it alot here !

Are you saying that Washington does not get a lot of lightning.

not at all like you might... I for one really like a good thunderstorm... from a safe place.

We were in St Anthony a couple summers ago at the dunes --and the most AWESOME thunder storm came thru there. Nothing like a high desert lightening show to make you feel a little awe. I would have to say that was NOT a safe place as we were in a wide open camping area with about 150 other campers/trailers and quads and sand cars all with tall flags on them. 'hit here, hit here!!' THAT was a little scary. could feel the electricity in the air. *shiver*

Holy Cow we just had the CRAZIEST lightning storm ever!!

For hours on end, there was lightning so incredibly bright and loud, it made the windows cave in. The dogs were hiding under the tables, then. . .

The power went out. That's right, we actually had lightning hit trees, ground, and knock the power out. I think this is the first ever.

And THEN what?

A fire!! That's right, there was a fire during the power outage just a mile from us. The whole town, infact, the whole western end of our pensinula was out of power, and just off in the distance, while of course hiding under the safety of a roof, you could see a bright orange glow and firetrucks racing towards it.

I have yet to find out what caused the fire (lightning?!) and what it struck (house? the forest?!) Because in that area, I don't think anyone had any houses. . It was deep in the woods. And it lasted for at least an hour.

Crazy crazy night. . .

Oh and the hail and rain was the worst ever. Man, I've heard some horror driving stories last night about trying to go through it. . . And the flashes of lightning certainly didn't help.

But, we're still alive and okay and in one piece.

ETA - someone asked if we don't get a lot of lightning. . . No. And we never get cloud to ground lightning, either.

Well thank goodness for that! That sounds pretty scary! I remember when I was a kid and we lived in Spokane, my Dad was watching out the dining room window when I lightening ball hit the ground right outside the window. It shorted out several appliances in the house. We had a little radio in the kitchen that ended up dead and blackend all underneath where the wiring was.
Glad YOU are okay Illia -

Yesterday we had a slow rotation funnel cloud form over Kingston. Lots of lightning, and emence thunder right on top of us. I comented to my DH yesterday morning that it almost looks like tornado weather. With the earie greenish hue to the clouds, the pounding sideways rain, lightening and thunder, and all this isolated to small thunderheads!

And then I found out yesterday that in town Kingston there was the start of a funnel!

This morning we have pounding rain, and gusts up to 30mph... Had some thunder off in the distance around 7ish this AM... But no wiered green tinge to the clouds today.

Crazy weather we are having.
