OK Bob so ya got me totally confuzzeled. Where you in Chehalis talking to Jim? And yes those RIR are from Jim Volk. Do you Know Dallas or Jim lucas?

I got off work last night at 10:30 and gave Jim a call to see how the water was. He lives on the Newakum River Road and he said they where going to get hit with the supposed once in 100 year storm. Pinapple express front or something like that. I was being hit with a strom which was a cold front coming down from up North. It was a killer kind of worried me some but it passed on to the east.

I was talking to Jim in the parking lot at Wall Mart in Fairhope Alabama which is off the Mobile Bay near Mobile Alabama. I have lived here twenty two years.

Jim got some nice Red Bantams I think from Lucas who got them from Bill Ziem out of New York. He has breed them for about four or five years. He is the past President of the Plymouth Rock Fanciers Club and I am still National Secetary.

Who would think a couple of kids from Centralia would end up 50 years latter runing a breed club.

Got to go to work its 42 degrees out side wind blowing like crazy and high humidty. I am from the North but this weather down her when its cold is rough.

I use to get in the car when it was raining, drive up to the North Fork of the Toutle River at Morgan Park get out of the car still raining put on my hip boots and my long parka and get in the water and fish. When I left it was still raining and it rained for days non stop. Could take that but this weather down here cant take it for more than a hour.

Need to take pictures of your Red Bantams the whole bird. I dont worry to much about leg color. My bantams will never have the red tinge running down the leg like the ABA standard wants. Why my birds came from large fowl and thier is no red tinge in thier legs just dark horn color. Have a fun day and enjoy your posts. Wish I could go to the feed store and sit down with you guys and talk chickens. I dont know the other guys. They came after I left home over fourty years ago. bob

The bator came with cardboard trays that I am useing and I havn't ordered the plastic ones yet. I probably will before the spring as they hold more eggs than the cardboard. The cardboard holds 30 eggs and they look like the typical egg flat from the store. I think the chicken size plastic you can order holds around 40. Not sure what color they are. Each shelf holds 2 trays.

I saw the cardboard ones, and figured if I had to buy trays I may as well buy the correct plastic ones, killer shipping at $39 to ship !!!
But at least I will have them.
Giving a few of the pheasant trys to Rainwolf and I will keep some as I have Guineas.
I do not think the pheasant trays will work for her tiny quail eggs...

I heard Robert on another thread discussing RIR bantam not having the leg stripe, and being from the Centralia area, I put 2 and 2 together and figured that he must know the guy that CR bought his RIR bantam hens from !
And so he does !
Small world ?

Just want to say HI!

We are having a Thanksgiving dinner tonight. We had a lousy turkey day and got no leftovers, so I am making up for it today!! I got a huge 23lb turkey!!

I'm thinking we will have some leftovers! I told the girls that I am not cooking for a week! They will have to get creative with turkey!

I will probably share with our neighbors though. Just found out she lost her job on Friday and her hubby is in remodel work and it is more off than on. They help me with so much around my place and with my girls so I am more than happy to share. I love having that old fashioned feeling of LOVE thy neighbor!! I am very lucky that our little cul-de-sac really looks out for eachother.

Lucky for me people keep having kids and sending them to school on a bus!! Job security!

Happy Holidays to each of you however you may celebrate! I love this time of year!

CR there is LOTS of grain Celiac people can eat, like Buckwheat and Quinoa, teff and rice flours, soy and millet, many many.

Speaking of celiac...remember the big pot of cioppiono I made last night ?
I dumped all sorts of shell fish and crab in...and 2 bags of "seafood mix" and in this sea food mix was the dasturdly fake crab which has wheat in it (D**N!!!!) It was too late to pick the tiny hunks out, and even then it has cross contaminated all the sea food in the bag !

I read labels but did not this time !!
