So now I am back home. Absolutely exhausted, but had an absolute ball at the vet's office. I will be working at the front desk, paperwork and people. I will walk dogs, feed critters, and do some cleaning in the back. Long term, I will get to help with some procedures and do other fun stuff in the back. I am very excited. Unfortunately, today there were 3 euthanasias...one of which were some friends of mine. I started crying. The vet made the comment what gentleman Kujo always was. He was 16 yo weiner dog. But, there were puppies that came in and kitties that I got to pet. The clinic has 3 clinic kitties and 2 clinic dogs. I was working on the computer on a client's file, and CC or DO would come and sit in my lap. I really enjoyed it.

thank you for asking.

So glad you had a great day at work!

Play at what you do and you will never work another day in your life

I LOVE my job, and I feel pretty blessed to be able to say that. Euthanasias are hard, especially when you know everyone personally. I have been doing this for .. umm... a REALLY long time and I still have tears almost every time. We have been here for 17 years, and we had a some hard times where all of our 'kitten' patients where coming in as oldsters for Their Time. It was very difficult, but I am glad it's US (who they have known for 17 years) that got to hold their hands and paws. <3 Anyway.. look forward to hearing some of your fun clinic stories

Does your hospital do mixed practice or just small animal?

Well, call me slow, but I just focused in on your avatar and realize you are wearing scrubs. I forget names all the time....where you the vet I talked to earlier this year? I agree at your quote: "Play at what you do...." I agree 100%. I have been a client with this clinic forever. I used to go there when the original doctor, Dr. Gjesevold (sp?) was there. He had come out to my house and euthanized my old dog...I didn't have to take Spuds in....Doc had been Spuds' vet forever. The Doc went back to the truck to get his stethoscope to confirm. DH and I were balling our eyes out. Spuds was the dog that made my DH like dogs...and the rest is history, regarding our household critters.

Well, when Doc came back to the yard, there was a tear in his eye. Even to this day this tears me up. Doc was compassionate and gentle and respectful to Spuds. It was approximately 2 weeks later that Dr. Gjesevold was killed in a farm accident. This man probably was doing farm work before he could walk. The cover on the PTO of his tractor to his bailer had fallen off/broke off (whatever - wasn't there). Doc stepped off the tractor with the PTO running and the PTO grabbed either his pant leg or shoe lace or something in the area and ripped off his leg (lightning fast). He died in the field. His wife went looking for him for lunch. This was how he was found. I will always remember him.

The clinic is a mixed practice with the majority being dogs, cats, cows, horses...and I would assume sheep and goats. I have brought in chickens of my own and while doing checkin on a patint, yesterday, on a client noticed that they had an iguana (sp?) in the family. This clinic is also one of the only one that does emergency call during the weekends and they have had clients come all the way up from Wenatchee - as no one there does weekend call. (I just can't believe this, but it is true). Also they have quite a clientel list that comes from Canada.

I am excited for the stories I will get to tell....and I hope that not getting bit is a long time coming. I don't wanna get bit.

My dream job...wit all my surgical assisting experience and front office experience and animals and ranch management experience, and the expert poo-picker-upper- and animal-bather that I am... the job eludes me....

I am sorry you can not find your dream job. but, you would have had to move to Omak.

I would have welcomed you with open arms.

Oh, btw, my roo has attacked a few of us and I tell everyone to not back down to him and then when he finally turns to chase him a bit. He has attacked me and I have used my lawn rake on him. Booted him across the yard. I also have ran him down and then picked him up and carried him around for 1/2 hour or more. He has been behaving more. What really upsets him is when DH sits in the yard and feeds all the ladies goodies. Tyson (the roo) gets really ticked then that they are not paying attention to him.

It'll come. Hopefully will just be a warning bite, and not 'going for blood' bite. Until you get cat-like reflexes (pardon the pun), you may end up with a few. Although mostly scratches... It just comes with the territory. Best of luck! I miss that field of work at times. Unfortunately didn't pay enough to support my lifestyle. So humans are my patients now, no longer the 'client'. Puppy & Kitten Seasons are always the best!

Ah yes, of course. Thank you! It always makes sense once it's spelled out for me.

LOL....that's alright...I had no clue what it meant. I thought it meant something like black and white.

I was going to ask you where that one came from, I do not recall seeing when I was out there...but the prettiest is your pony !

No I have not lounged her yet, well at least not here at home. I did work with her a little where I got her, but the focus was more on getting her loaded. lol

And yes Lacy was here when you picked up the biddies. lol She was just behind the house. And I know, Teagan is the cutest little thing ever! Everyone who looks at his pictures dont believe that he is only 11 hands. lol

This is Teagan, he is an 8 year old, 11 hand Welsh Mountain pony. We brought him home as a ferral when he was 5.

That is one cute pony. Always wanted one to cart with. We used to teach camp kids about harnessing and carting at the ranch where I went to college and had a blast but always wanted one of my own. He's adorable.
