Did you ride at the track? My first job out of college was at a Thoroughbred breeding farm near Del Mar Race track in Cali. We took the long yearlings and broke them and got them going around the track decent then they shipped them off to Del Mar track to finish their training. Dang that was fun. Those horses were fast and it made your eyes water. Sure was hard to get used to having my knees in my chest though. Big time cramps. Wasn't trained to sit in those skimpy racing saddles. Had always rode Western up to that point. Oh well, riding is riding and a job is a job so I couldn't complain.
My cousin and I went out to exercise every so often, then my family moved.
My cousin was at the track alot, on the cicuit, her Dad (my Uncle) was a jockey when young but then started training...his name J.W. Nicholson, and my other uncle trained, his name Leno Luigi Cenini, just passed a few months ago.
My cousins are still hanging around the circuit in one way or another, Guy was jockeying, got too big and now is training I think ..Gary Nicholson, and sister Laurie is running a food/catering biz.
I have not seen them for 20 years.
They are in L.A. now.
They were living a block from Bay Meadows, that is where we went out to exercise, and ponied yearlings.
