It was nice to talk with Chickielady and her husband today. I usually dont talk a whole lot. Ive been getting coffee there for a while now and never realized they served food. Usually get the kids the hot chocolate with the works and a cookie and myself some sort of coffee.

Moths hibernating explains why I got several moths in the house lately. I wondered why they were in the house, saw 3 or 4 of them in a weeks time so thats why.

Rainwolf explained the different quail that I have. I just knew that they were corts, what kind I had no idea.

OK sounds fine but we will have to work out a few details. Like what color, do you want a short bell or long, do you want bracket? And most important how to get it to ya. I don't know where you are !!!

I would like to get one from you two.

I don't remember the exact terminology (too early in the morning and not enough coffee and it has been years) but turn the the pressure too. We used to shoot no more than 300 ft/sec. Maybe CR remembers how to. Or read up on it. You don't want to be hit with a ball shot at over that....even 300 ft/sec is very painful and has left many welts on my body.

Sorry, messing around with quote stuff and accidentally hit the send button. Just thinking how cute it would be if you made it like a real hobbit house with mud walls and grass roof. But wonder how long it would last in the PNW?

If the house is built into a hill it will withstand our wetweather. I habe no clue how a hobbit house, that is free standing would hold up though. I used to clean a house on Bainbridge Island, that was built into a hill back in the 70's, the only part of the house that is exposed is the south western side, i think... I would personally love to have a house built into a hill, temps stay much steadieryear round. Ah some day I will have my own place, and not be in a rental. lol

Chickielady. The biddie looks great! A little frustrated maby, but who isn't now days? Ive been insanely busy around here, been taking advantage of the dry weather, and getting some work done around the property.

It would be so fun to have a house like that, fun project, thought about doing a root cellar like that. We have a slope on our property that might work but it has little tiny streams running through underground in the winter that come out at the base of the slope. Thought a root cellar might get flooded.

I have seen pictures of the Hobbit Houses--google them if you haven't already--Totally totally cool!! I would love to have something like that.. Hubby--NOT SO MUCH hahah!

Illia-- I use straw in the goats house, so I toss it into the hen yard for them to pick thru and get all the seeds... then into the garden/flowerbeds etc--friends house, etc etc.

So I have to muck the chicken yard first, can be quite a chore but it works fab!!

Yeah with the hill you describe it sounds like a root cellar would flood, unless you were to wrap the outside of the cellar, "between the earth and cement/rock/ or other material you would use." Anyways, if you were to wrap the outside with a heavy visquene, and raise the floor 4-8" off the base. That way if it was to flood, it could just run out under the floor. At least this is the way my Grandad tought me how to get around those pesky little underground streams. I remember using cement and two man rock, to build the walls. Then we framed in the celing / shed floor, and shed above. I'm sure there was more to it than that, but I was 13 when we did this, so I may be forgetting something. And unfortunately, my Grandad is no longer with us, so no chance of going back and asking him how we did it...

Root cellars are great though! Always stay cool, and mostly dark, depending on how its built.
