Love the snow pictures; it looks so pretty in the trees, but I am very happy it is not freezing here ... no thawing water bottles!

I'm sorry about your roo:hugs

Sometimes I think the power companies mess with our bills and hope they will get enough people who don't notice. 3 yrs ago I put up 6 strands of LED Christmas lights outside, and my bill for that month was $750! That's double our usual winter bills. I talked with about 5 other neighbors with lights and they all said their bills were doubled. PSE refused to adjust the charge, but the following summer there was one month where my bill was less than $50, and that's not typical either.

I think so too--PSE does some weird stuff sometimes that don't makes sense with their billing...

It's so pretty! But .. boy.. you DO have a lot. Drive safely on your way to Oroville.

Morning all.

Pretty sure it was not CWD, as none of our other goats caught it. We inspected his area that he's been living in, and found nothing. We always knew though that there were no plants in his place that were unknown or questionable to us. We figured, since he was near a large pile of timber, that either a spider bit him, or a he ate a poisonous mushroom, or. . . Something odd.

He's been wormed, (and never had the signs of having worms) he shares half his space with another buck who gets along great with him, and is still perfectly healthy, and even the does and Yak who he shared his last week with while under illness are still perfectly okay.

He didn't lose appetite, in fact during the time he was separated from the other buck, he did eat, he just didn't have much will to walk all the way over to the waterer. (their food is inside the barn to keep from getting wet - their water is over 20 feet from the door of the barn) He ate through his time of being with the other goats, it wasn't until yesterday and possibly the day before that his symptoms got worse, and he got weaker. Basically back to square one, when I first found him.

Whatever it was, it was not contageous and was related to his gut. Family thinks it may have been a blockage?

Past that, pretty good day today. It has been raining cattle and horses, and there are LAKES and RIVERS out there! And it looks like we'll be continuing with the heavy rains for at least 2 more days. . .

THIS is the kind we had in North Idaho that does not grow here, and the other kind that J posted looks like little daiseys, is a whole different movie, I have NO idea about that.
My Tansy had no petals on it, and we used it for alot of different things.
OK got that figured out, and how did this discussion come about ?
Does Illia think her goat ate Tansy and died ?
If so, I think it would of gone in convulsions.
I think worms or CWD...

Illia didn't say -- I just asked if she had noted any on her property ... I had to treat my goats when they were kids for rhodie poisoning and toxicity was the first thing that came to mind.... I have no idea though

I am not sure about CWD. But I don't THINK it's been documented yet in WA. I don't know for sure though.
Hope your hubby makes it back home soon!

*Sigh!* Thanks Jen !

well, not the correct quote but wanted to ask you about the Yasha ordeal:
Do not animals of the camel family have the ability to stick their stomachs out ?
I saw a TV show where male camels do it to attract females, is it harmless, and gross (to us) but a sexual attractant to the female of the species.
Do Llamas do that as well ?
idunno.gif
Just wondering.
I have also read where a goat (or Llama) can eat weird stuff (or dog!!!) like a sprinkler, or an entire string of Christmas lights...or someother bizarre item that is neither food nor will it break down organically but instead PLUGS the intestine and the animal dies.
I say this because it sounds as if Illia's goat was starving even though he had food all around him.
The reason why this is on my mind is because my pup dog Jack is still eating rocks, and we hve had a very long talk with the vet about rock eaters.
It is hard to break them of it.
And when I catch him chewing on a rock he freaks and swallows it.
Now most of the rocks here are small, so not a big deal for a large dog..but he does get a bit plugged up from time to time no doubt til the (ouch!) rock is ejected...is that the correct word ?
So the vet did say this could happen, and if enough rocks are swallowed (or other debris) the dog could be plugged, refuse to eat, weither away and die.
So we have to keep a close eye on him.
So, maybe Illia's goat ate a rock or something ?
So sad !

Are the renters responsible for the power bill? You had better not have to pay this...that is crazy.

The deal we have with the renter is we give him up to $50 a month, and with $20K worth of solar panels, they should never have a bill over that amount.
What PG&E does, is send us a statement monthly about how much we used and how much was generated and at what rate each was.
Electricity costs more in the summer, and even more between noon and 7 PM...so we would turn all our usage off at those times (and sit and sweat in the heat !) so we could send all our power to PG&E rather than use it. Then in the winter, when electricity is cheap (mostly cuz rivers are generating alot and usage is down) we get less per KW hour than in the summer but it all averages out in fact they owed us money at the end of the year.
Up until last year 2010, PG&E would then wipe the slate clean, your credits lost, and you begin a new year in January.
But now, they actually PAY you for the power you pumped into their grid, after a few lawsuits PG&E decided it was true, that we were GIVING them power and they in turn were selling it to our neighbors and in so doing were making money off our hard work, so now, if you have credits, they send you a check at the end of the year.
The big bonanza here is:
The renters never see their usage or over usage, and they more than likely think that all their usage will be covered by the solar panels and so they can go ballistic growing pot, which may also fry the breakers in the house.
And yes, we strongly suspect pot.
barnie.gif

And yes, if they are growing oot, the whole house, all totally brand new and remodeled (I never even used the dishwasher!) will wreak to outer space of skunky marihoochie.
And the best part is, we are living in a lawn mower barn waiting for the place to SELL....
somad.gif

Anyway, the renters probably had the place lit up with grow lights trying to extend the bud season on their pot or start new rootings, and had no idea the solar bill came to us monthly and so they are back pedalling now, but they have no idea DH is on his way down to kick some butt.
