MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE everyone! I haven't had time to catch up on many posts but I hope everyone has a wonderful day today and tomorrow too. Doing the big x-mas celebration with family and kids opening presents, and tomorrow it will just be DH and myself all day in a quiet house. The boys will be at their other parents for the day, so DH and I decided to do nothing but relax! It should be a great weekend.

I am sorry about Illias goat, and I hope Kelby is ok, and Congrats Heather on the pregnancy, I hope you get over the orning sickness soon! If I missed any other big news, I am sorry. It was hard to really read THAT MANY posts. You guys are a very talkative bunch.

Blessings to all!
Kim

Okay, since we are talking of food...

The girls got their morning fresh water with their treat. Today it was a bag of microwave popcorn. Yesterday it was pasta worms (spaghetti noodles). I took the popcorn out of the bag - by the way. No movie though....

DD and I have made: 5-layer bars. pull-apart (monkey) bread for tomorrow morning - it will be baked in the morning - we just assembeled. Then we made a cranberry cream cheese pie. And later we will build a egg/sausage casserole for tomorrow morning too. That is just today's cooking....much more to do tomorrow.

Need to go and wrap presents. DH (who was not suppose to buy me anything) brought in a gift for me that he wrapped in aluminum foil....I guess I know where to go and get foil if I need it for tomorrow. Sheesh.

Merry Christmas everyone. Have a good time with family. And try to relax. The kid's don't care (and I don't think Santa does either) if the house is not spotless.

I've seen several posts about someone's goat that must've died and it appears as though it wasted away. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this so I will.

I borrowed a neighbor's Billy last year to breed my two does and shortly after putting them together, I noticed the older doe wasn't getting up much. I never gave it much thought as I figured she was just laying down to keep the billy from pestering her. Then about a week later or so I noticed she was looking really thin. Upon checking it out, I saw that she seemed to be wasting away. I tried several different things but to no avail.

One other thing I noticed after Naomi (the older goat) died was that Ruth (her daughter) and Hootie (the neighbor's billy) both had diarrhea. I fed them extra goodies like some All-Stock which they normally didn't get as well as some 50/50 grass/alfalfa mix. Long story short, the other goat (her daughter) and then the billy all wound up dying of the same thing.

I must say I know next to nothing about goats, but after talking to several "goat people", it appears they died from Coccidiosis. Evidently goats, like chickens, can get Coccidiosis - but the goat and chicken cocci are not compatible nor transferrable. Knowing what I know about Coccidiosis in chickens, it makes sense to me. One of the hard lessons I learned about Cocci in chickens is that you can cause an outbreak when you bring in birds from outside your flock because of the numerous (14 I think) strains of different cocci.

Cocci is transmitted vertically from mother to offspring. The good thing is that your flock will build up a natural resistance to that particular strain. Medicated Chick Starter will help prevent any excess cocci ingestion and outbreaks. However, if you bring in birds from outside your flock and they have a strain that is different than what your flock has, you will likely see an outbreak because those birds have now infected yours with a new strain, and your birds have infected those birds with their strain.

I am think that is what happened when I brought the neighbor's billy down to breed Naomi & Ruth. I can't speak dogmatically to that but it makes sense to me. I didn't see anyone else mention this so I thought I would in case you'd like to check into it.

Here's wishing all my fellow Washingtonians a very Merry Christmas and a wonderfully blessed New Year!

God Bless,

Well again, if he had Cocci, I'd see it pop up in my others. . . He's the newest member of the "herd" along with two other kinder doelings, but noone has ever displayed such symptoms, and he began about a week before he died; several months after we got him.

Chickielady - I'll get more as soon as I get my camera working again.

Thanks for sharing!

Ha ha, I went there too and read the forum subject about "women peeing in the bushes" or something like that. Those perma culture people recycle everything including their own excrement! They talked about drip drying which I admit I have a spot down by the barn I occasionally will go when too lazy too walk up to the house. Someone said just make sure you change you panties regular then someone else said just lose the panties. I'm thinking WHAT? Id rather change panties every day than a pair of jeans that weren't quite dirty enough. But some talked about saving it in a jar and putting it in the compost. Yuk. Shouldn't have clicked on that one but curiosity got the best of me. I am going to train my chickens to eat slugs though. We have billions of them.
