I am sure you were not laughing then, but ya know that every momma goes through it. (and daddies too). My daughter never wrote on her face (I don't remember) but she did cut her hair. Very crooked.

Maybe it's because she switched to cabbage! You should try the collards next year.

Jbear made me a yule wish log: A slab of cedar, and hot glued on swirls of cedar bough and ivy and different greens, and ivy, then had awesome glitter, and a gass red jewel in the center...we wrote wishes on sraps of paper and tucked in within the boughs that were glued on the cedar slab. All went in to fire, and wishes go in the heavens, awesome !

T-Hi delivered it to me yesterday, and we had a great visit. I gave T the duck hat my Mom made her, and we had so many giggles that DH was hiding in his fort, most of the time, but finally could stand it no longer and came to join us women...

And I gotta tell ya T looks so adorable with a duck hat on !!!!!!!!!!

I only wish I had known and would have a gift for Jbear, what a nice surprise !
But I am known for sponteneous surprise, so watch out Jen, something good is coming your way !!

Just use some of the rooted Ivy for a yule log for someone next year, kinda like an Amish Friendship Cake, and so then, I am sure all your wishes will come true. Sure of it.

This reminds me, I have a really good recipe for Amish friendship cake but no starter. I've had it for years when it was first given to me with starter but that was down in Cali. I could ask if anyone up here has starter but what I really want to know is does anyone know how to get a starter started when there isn't any?

Oh, and I have made starter for sourdough bread but the starter for the friendship bread is way different.

We had gone to a New Years Party at friends' who are Japanese. They have a huge production every year. Anyway, I followed the recommendation to eat all from the wheel (about 20 or so different foods) which all signify a part of the 4 elements. Most were okay, some were great, and a few I had a hard time getting down but we both made it through.

They also had black beans which they cook then marinate in ginger (actually was very good). Normally I don't like beans but these were yum!

We also had miso soup with tofu, ? root, machi (CR's rubber cement). I guess the part of Japan where the Mrs is from uses a miso base where most other parts of Japan uses a clear base for the soup. This was the first course. All was great except the machi- honestly I thought it was a cheese as it was gooey when you lifted it with the chopsticks (like mozzerella), but then when you put it in your mouth it was like an unbaked dough...

All in all very good eats- much different than what we normally eat. Also much different than what we eat at a Japanese Restaurant.


After that party, we went to see DH's folks & had lumpia (phillipino egg roll). A full day of eating & wine (we held off on the sake). Our bellies were very very full.
